This is a little something I thought about throwing out there. Of course, there is no way we could enforce this... we must use the honor system. I thought this would make the collector community a better place. Feel free to contribute.
1. Thou shalt not repack. If you can't afford the hobby, don't collect. This doesn't screw over collectors, it screws over people who buy them for others. Yes, it can damage an act of kindness or generosity. 2. Thou shalt not take the last one, unless it is the last one. If you army build, have at it. But don't go and clean out the shelves... leave at least one or two for someone else. If it's the last one sitting be there, then grab it! 3. Thou shalt be reasonable when selling. Do not be a jerk and sell something for a ridiculous price. Yes, you can make a profit... but don't be one of those people who is *certain* that the value of a $7.00 toy is worth $50.00 because people are having a hard time finding it. I think double the price is as high as you should go, unless people are bidding more. 4. Thou shalt not buy that which thou dost not like for the sake of hoarding. If you don't like something, don't spend money on it... you idiot. If you hate the ROC figures, there is no real reason you should own 2 of each. It doesn't hurt the community, it's just stupid (Exception- kitbashing/customs). 5. Thou shalt not scam. This goes into hoarding and repacking, but don't sell something to someone and rip them off. It's pathetic, and it bothers me to see someone who likes the same thing I do, and then realize that they are scum. 6. Thou shalt give to Toys for Tots or some other charity. Come on, guys... we're grown men buying toys. The least we can do is give some back. Throw a $5.00 toy for a boy and one for a girl in that box. 7. Thou shalt have no shame about opening thy figures, nor shalt thou be ashamed to keep them boxed. To each his own- some like to keep it boxed up for ? reason, I like to open mine. However you enjoy yours is up to you. Don't knock the other guy. Anyone can add to this... Heres 3 more Thou shall grab a blunt object and throw at card benders or re-packers, if at Wal-Mart or some type of grocers store fling an egg at them Thou shall buy figures in the equivalence of buying something special for significant other. Lastly Thou Shall NOT trick, con, or pull away a figure/collectible toy from the hands of a child; unless they are NOT going to buy but they are simply kicking it around and busting it up, taking the chance of another kid or collector away from getting said object And as for Toys for Tots make it at least 20 bucks. |

10. "How much is too much" is none of anyones business except yours as the buyer. if you can afford the price tag of a vintage, unpunched 82 Joe and I can't, so be it. Don't hate the player OR the game.
11. (an addendum of sorts) If you ARE buying multiples of any item for those that are without, make sure to advise thise persons to pay it forward and do for someone else. There are easily 10 people I would buy for right now if they were in need and I do so all the time when I can. This is a great thread. |

However you enjoy yours is up to you. Don't knock the other guy. Anyone can add to this... 2: I don't follow. Don't take the last one, unless it's the last one? It's okay to take every figure on the shelves if you army build, but if you don't army build don't take them all because it's selfish if you do it just to be selfish? How about if you want to army build, order your figures from the net and leave the ones on the shelves for the people who just want one of each. 3: I think most of us are reasonable when we sell to other collectors. Now, if we could just convince the on-line retailers to behave like retailers instead of on-line scalpers, then we'd have accomplished something. $11.99 for two of the 3 figures in a wave and then $16.99 for the one everyone wants. That's the same way the guy at the flea market acts. 4: No argument here. If so many of us didn't buy crap we don't like, then there might be less crap that we don't like but buy any way. Some people call it brand loyalty, I call it silly. Just because we walk down the toy aisle, doesn't mean we have to buy something. 5: Isn't this the same as #3? 6: I only give to the Salvation Army. 7: I don't recall ever feeling any shame or judgement based on the preference of a collector. |

Same. I saw someone do that once... grabbed a figure, mangled card, put it back on shelf. I grabbed it off the second it was down. Guy yelled.
