Just a thought but there might be some "ears" on the housing, the housing might need a quarter of a turn clockwise or counterclockwise to release.
Just thinking outloud - I have two Yamaha's and I have not had much call to mess with the engines. |

i was thinking about this last night when i was in bed. I get my best ideas that way lol.
anyways some bikes the housing is purposly welded together and you have to take the whole engine and tranny out to get it cut in half. My cb650 was like that. also the "ears" is a good thought too. anyhow let us know how it goes.
