Hey there fellow Joe afficionado's I need your advice/input on an ebay related matter.
A couple of months back I picked up a HUGE collection of Spawn/McFarlane toys and figures. Altogether there's about 700 pieces and I paid just over a dollar a piece for most figures. I'm unemployed at the moment and bought this collection with the intentions of selling them on ebay at a profit. (I know this may not sit well with some people on here and I'm not going to argue that point.) I've been selling on ebay for about 4 years and have a high feedback number and score. I've sold mostly star wars/joes and some transformers. Anyway, let's get to the heart of the matter. I need to sell this spawn stuff and I'm not sure what the best approach would be. The main issue is the shipping. Spawn figures are fairly heavy and it could easily cost $5-$6 or more to ship a single figure. I've found that when the shipping amount is this high that the figures won't bid up very much because most people factor in the shipping amt. in with what they're willing to pay. Unfortunately if I charge a low enough amt. to encourage bidding I run the chance of losing money, not only on shipping but on the figure as well. I've thought about starting the auctions (or BIN) at a higher amt. with shipping already figured into the price and just offer free shipping on the figure. That way even if i get a single bid I've made money and not shot myself in the foot on shipping. I've also thought that since most of these figures are big and heavy that maybe I should sell them in lots of 3 or more and just use the $10.00 flat-rate priority box. It seems like that may be the best value for shipping for the customers. I could pretty easily fit 5 or more loose figures in a flat-rate box. So anyhow, any advice or insight or comments would be appreciated. |

Still not sure if I should do BIN with shipping figured in or just start the auctions at 99 cents with a flat $10.00 shipping fee. I'd rather auction them because the FVF is lower, but with BIN I wouldn't risk losing any money. |

Dude, don't use ebay, use Ecrater.com
It's free to make your store and you can sell as many things as you want. So you only pay paypal fees and no ebay fees. Click the pic in my signature, it's a simple set-up but hey, it's free! Just pimp out your store on some forums. And you can make an auction listing to pimp your ecrater store too, just be sneaky about it. Ecrater isn't for auctions, you just set a price, set the shipping, and that's it, wait for people to buy it. |

Yup, the only thing with ecrater, make sure you advertise what you're selling, like posting links to your store on forums and stuff.
I've only had my site for like a month maybe and already I've sold a bunch of stuff. |

If you do use ecrater, make sure not to use google checkout. Google can close your account at anytime and freeze your cash worse than paypal. Even better there is not a phone number you can call them at to handle the situation and the email support is cryptic at best and if you get it within 24 hours it'd be amazing. But other than that, if you use paypal or money order, ecrater is a fine site.
