Having been in the Army as a mechanic for 8 years before getting out, I find modern military equipment pretty interesting. The newer vehicles that have come out as a result of the war in Iraq are unique as they are cool-looking. The up-armored versions of old equipment make some of these dogged trucks ready to go for another 20 years.
Of particular interest to me are the HEMTTs, especially the M984A1 Wrecker version, since this is the vehicle I drove while in. All of the Osh Kosh equipment is pretty cool, and I was always hoping that one day I could have an acurately detailed 1:18 scale vehicle that my joes and elite force troops could use... Anybody else interested in making this happen? |

if HEMTT = MRAP, then hell yes!
i saw them on future weapons and though " oh man we will probably never see those..." and then like 6 months later, they were shipping them out! i'm glad to see the troops getitng them. so much better protection form IED's. the V hull design is pure genius. *so upon googling, i see we are talking about two differnt, yet equally awesome vehicles. while i was over there, the company i worked for was retrofitting older vehicles (HMMWV's, HEMTT's, F/LMTV's, 5-Tons and M-916's) with total armor kits - a lot of them looked cool as hell. even as crappy as the F/LMTV's are, there were two different armor styles - a regular box type, and a bucket type (the V-shaped hull - which we now know is more effective against mines), which reminded me of Darth Vader for some reason.
I just added a whole other list of world-wide MRAP vehicles that would make cool toys to another thread this morning. But I personally love the HEMTT, because that's what I drove while I was in the military. |

Here's what I wrote on the other thread:
There are a lot of MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles the military are starting to use or are in the works that would make some great toys, like the Cougar, the Buffalo (aka the Casspir, or the Claw), the LAV (aka Stryker or Piranha), the AVGP Grizzly (same as the LAV, minus 1 axle), the Cobra, the TPz Fuchs, the Fennek, the International FTTS, the OT-64 SKOT, the International MaxxPro, the Puma AFV, the Reva APC (very similar to the Mamba APC and RG-31), the HEMTT (armored version, in wrecker and cargo variants), the Nimda Shoet, the RG-12, the Plasan Sand Cat, MTVR (armored), the Pegaso BMR, the AGF Serval, the Panhard VBL, the GAZ-3937 Vodnik, the Renault Sherpa, the Komatsu LAV, and many others. I would be pretty stoked to see some of these made, although I won't hold my breath. I know the 25th line is going to be mostly retro repros updated. But if Hasbro comes out with a new line of Joes using the new body molds... |

i think we would have better luck petitioning bbi and or fov to make these. to be honest, i think they would do a better job as well. just my opinion, but hasbro would likely stick to bastardized versions just to avoid licensing issues.
i'd love to see large tranport vehicles like the hemtt or even any of the 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 man trucks. fov already has the stryker scheduled for this fall for sale thru target.
