F-15SE Silent Eagle
Latest variant of the F-15E Strike Eagle. Wouldn't mind seeing a G.I. Joe plane based off of this. |

One hell of an idea on an already wonderful aircraft....takes me back to when I was in the Air Force. I could see this as the deliverer of pain to Cobra.

No disrespect to Boeing (they've designed and built plenty of good planes), but I'd call that the reaction of a company that missed out on priming the contracts for both the F-22 and F-35.
They're proposing to semi-stealth their best inherited air superiority turned deep strike bomb truck. Sorry, but I don't see many countries paying more for a suped up F-15 over a true stealth F-35 to quietly deliver their bombs to their neighbors. |

If anything the F-15SE is an appealing option for militaries who already use variants of the F-15E(F-15K, F-15S, F-15I). Why? All of the proposed upgrades that make the Silent Eagle more advanced than the Strike Eagle, can be retrofitted to the F-15E. I see it more as an option to turn an already effective strike fighter into a deadlier aircraft, rather than a threat to the JSF program. |

They've already said that it's not as stealthy as the F-35. Hell the best alternative would be to cancel the F-35 and produce more F-22's. Avionics on the F-35 are very impressive, but it's compromised in too many areas just to be a jack of all trades with stealth capability.

Yeah, the F-35 to F-22 is deja vu of the F-16/F-15 of years past. I do see a need for both to get that compromised affordability the F-35 brings. Shoot, most countries can't even afford to fly a 4 ship of F-22s. |

Ah, good point. If you already have the infrastructure for the F-15 (E or otherwise) it could certainly be more cost effective to upgrade over starting over on a new airframe.

The Eagle is truly the last of its generation. I don't care much for the F-22 in terms of appearance. But I love the F-15's muscular fuselage and old school hardpoints. To hell with stealth, let pilots dogfight it out like they did in WWII.
