I'd remove Magneto, Thanos, Riddler and Ras Al Ghul.
Missing T.O Morrow, The Mad Thinker (who would be #4), Egghead, Brainiac (would you disqualify him because he's an alien?) and probably about a dozen others I'm not thinking of. Wait, can't forget Norman Osborn.

Mr. Terrific should be on the list. Isn't he the only one other than Martian Manhunter that has the mental skills to keep track of things from the Watchtower?
Villian wise, I think Modok should be on the list.

REally I can only do marvel, but you can sumize an Idea of where others would rank on my list.
1) Val Richards (reed's 3 yr old) 2) Reed Richards 3) Dr Doom 4) Hank Pym 5) Bruce Banner 6) Amedeus Cho 7) The Leader 8) High Evolutionary 9) Mr. Sinister 10) Dr. Nemisis 11) Beast 12) Magneto 13) Norman Osbourne 14) Black Panther 15) Tony Stark Again i only read marvel and I read a lot of it.... A LOT for many years and this seems to be accurate to the way they are portrayed, especially when you take characters that are deceased off the list. But the last issue of Fantastic Four confirmed that Val Richards is all ready smarter than her father. Amedeaus Cho is stated as the 6th smartest over and over again. The ones I listed above him were just easy to plug in. |

OK... I gotta stick up for the Batman. I guess it depends on how you look at the word SMART.
1. World's greatest detective - you don't get that title without being smart. 2. In the late 90's with the help of Azrael used his skills and computer to help formulate a cure for the Ebola Virus that saved Tim Drake and many others from dying. Like I said... it depends on how you define SMART. Yeah being a billionaire and the ability to buy anything at will does help you out, but you gotta know how to spend that money too! Is Batman the E=MC2 smart?? Probably not, but there are many super heroes that depend on his brains and fast thinking to get them out of a hairy situation. He's not on the Justice League because of his pretty face, money, and fighting skills, you gotta have some brains! |

I'm thinking IQ/numbers/engineers/scientists.
From the page: "For the characters included here, intelligence played an important role in their ascension to the superhero role. Many are formally educated, earning degrees from prestigious universities and then using those skills to their advantage by developing gadgets and technology to aid them in their adventures. For others, a freak accident while experimenting with a new invention -- as is the case with Mister Fantastic, the Hulk, Yellowjacket, and the Atom -- led to their transformation from human to superhero." If that's the case, Wayne doesn't belong on this list. If it's overall intelligence/tactician/etc.. then yeah, and so should Steve Rogers. But for a list of engineers and scientists? Beyond that, it would take an enormously high IQ to be able to master the multitude of fields that Bruce Wayne has demonstrated expertise in. He might (emphasis on might) not be able to follow all the math to design a Reed Richards Time Machine, but he could probably build one if Reed Richards gave him the blueprints (or if he stole them). In either case, Bruce's raw intelligence (read: learning capacity) is absolutely critical to his transformation into Batman. I do tend to think Bruce Wayne's raw scientific knowledge tends to get underestimated by some folks. Being the "World's Greatest Detective" also means he's the world's greatest forensic scientist...a field that requires a great deal of knowledge across multiple scientific disciplines. |

I'll concede on Batman, but I still think he'd barely crack the Top 10, especially in terms of pure scientific intellect.
I had forgotten about Val Richards and Dr. Nemesis. But Mr. Terrific should at least be in the Top 5.

By what's flat-out stated in the comics, if Mr. Terrific is in the top 5, then Bruce Wayne should be in the top 4 or higher. I do think Mr. Terrific should be on the list, but clearly this list was designed around more recognizable A and B list characters. Which explains folks like Doc Magnus, Dr. Nemesis, Val Richards, Amadeus Cho, etc... etc... not popping up. Also overlooked: T'Challa, the Black Panther.
