From an aesthetic point of view, the empire has a much cleaner look that has aged well in the last 30+ years whereas the hippies that comprise the rebel alliance definitely dates the movies.
The novels have not translated well after the release of the prequels either. I used to love the Thrawn trilogy but now find several inconsistencies now that the back story of the empire has been filled in. The later Thrawn duology was good as well. Jedi Academy was lame, and although I enjoyed the premise of Shadows of the Empire, the author became repetitive in his depictions of events (IE "She looked at him as if his head turned into a big spider"). I am more fascinated now with the Force Unleashed story and only wish I had a PS3 or XBox360 to play their versions or the new Sith Edition. |

Only 2 Proton Launchers, which also give away their position if fired. No ion-cannons or tractor beam, either, and the shields are downgraded. They're also given away if they use their communications. Meaning that only Jedi can really effectively use them in actual squadrons/formations (further meaning the Rebels could never field them in large numbers). That's a totally sweet picture, though. The StealthX is cool, and great for what they are, but they're not really built as dogfighters. Put a Jedi pilot in a TIE Defender and a Jedi Pilot in a StealthX and I'll give the win to the TIE Defender 9 times out of 10 (particularly if to make things fair the TIE Defender gets to be built with NJO-era technology). A better match for the TIE Defender is the E-Wing. A terminally underrated New Republic design. But it's kinda moot, since the E-Wing and StealthX (and further X-Wing refinements) were all developed long after the TIE Defender and never served the Rebel Alliance (because they were the New Republic by the time the newer ships were invented, natch). Basically the TIE Defender was just well ahead of its' time, and during "The Rebellion Era" there was nothing in the galaxy (aside from perhaps some heavily customized personal starships) that could touch it. Oh, and speaking of heavily customized personal ships, I give you B-Wing fans The Deathraven. Now there's a "gunship" if ever there was one. Last edited by Jmacq1; 11-03-2009 at 08:25 AM.. |

Imperial all the way.. I even have problems playing the Rebels in PC games where I have to play Rebels to complete certain missions.
Like you said they are a bit brutal but they have the best ships, weapons and uniforms. When I was a kid... I watched Return of the Jedi for the first time. I wanted Luke to Kill the Emperor and then He and Vader could take over the Empire and bring back the Jedi. Instead Vader died and I cried like a baby... I was 8.

Technically that one is neither Imperial or Rebel... it was a Smuggling ship and Han has been on both sides of the fence.

I think his allegiance is pretty well defined by the end of ROTJ. Directly aiding in destroying not 1 but 2 Death Stars leaves no doubt in my mind.

There's a reason for that. A single pair of TIE Defenders (or even TIE Avengers/TIE Advanced) with good pilots could probably take down the Falcon relatively easily. |

Either way, the Millennium Falcon is one ship. One that spends most of its' time running away from direct engagement with Imperial Forces.
