Don't mess around with tickets no matter how trivial it may seem. If you don't deal with it, you may end up getting a warrant out for your arrest for failing to appear in court. If you ever get stopped again you could end up in jail.
Since it was out of state it would have been better for you to simply pay the ticket through the mail if it's an option. I know some places insist you show up in court which is stupid if you are willing to just pay it. $400 does seem outrageous. I guess since you were out of state they figured you would simply pay it rather than contest it in court. The argument that you took it off to get your wallet out seems like a good one. Now that things have gone a little further, I would certainly call and talk to someone to figure out the best way to resolve it. Don't put it off. If you end up sending a check or something, make sure and send it certified mial so that you have proof that you sent it and that they recieved it. |

its so unjust. i never received anything about going to court. i really hate how this shhht works. nobody should be able to fine me anything for not wearing a seat belt in the backseat of a car
if they are so concerned about my safety, than how come i can ride a motorcycle in AZ without even wearing a helmet? |

In the Uk it's up to a £2000 fine for not wearing a rear seatbelt - I believe that that is payable by the driver of the vehicle. This goes for children as well, so if your irksome 15 year old unbelts and you're stopped by the police you get hit for the fine.
Rear seatbelt is not just to protect your life, its to protect the drivers life... ...nothing as pretty as the back of someones head after being hit by a 13 stone weight moving at 30 mph... Be safe. Clunk-Click. Every trip!

you can pay a lawyer like $100 and he can get it dropped. there is no way you would get a year for a seatbelt ticket. at most like 1 to 3 days in jail.

Sorry to hear that you have fallen victim to revenue enhancement. All you can do is pay it or become an outlaw.

If you got a failure to appear you might want to get a lawyer before you are pulled over again. If it is misdemeanor you can get up to one year in jail, more fines, and a suspension of license. Since more states share records with each other the chance of you skipping this ticket without getting caught grows slim. On top of that if you want to get employed by a company they routinely do background checks and this little seat belt incident could cost you dearly even more in your hiring.
I spent all night chained to a wall in Brooklyn because I forgot about a minor ticket that led to a warrant. FYI I was on the way to a funeral too. Twas a learning experience for sure..call the court asap and get it resolved. |

I agree it is a really stupid ticket. The whole seat belt thing is just a way for them to squeeze more monry out of us. But you are gonna need to resolve this, which means paying a stupid amout of money to them. You may be able to get a lawyer to help, but it might end up osting you more.
Sorry to hear about this, it's a crock. But you don't want a warrant hanging over your head.
