Was you house/apt. broke into (window broke or door knob broke off); or was there no sign of forced entry (like they had a key)? I would buy renters insurance tomorrow. It sucks paying every month but when something does happen, you are covered. You landlord is not liable for your stolen items. Call all the local stores to alert them about your items. Good luck, and when you find the robber and beat his ass, you'll sleep better.

I remember back in 2003 I got my wallet stolen and I reported it and the cops didnt do shit about it. I got all my money back. but it I lost some irreplacable pics I had in my wallet of my family. It really sucks. I feel in the dumps now. I had a hard time sleeping last night.
I woke up yesterday and was handed a pamphlet by my "significant other", that we'd recieved in the mail. It said we should write down all the serial numbers of our electronics and appliances, just for safe measure, given the number of theft cases reported in our neighbourhood. At the beginning of the summer, I had stolen off the back downstairs patio, a pair of shoes (on which i'd spilt gasoline...hence why they were outside), sunglasses and half a pack of cigarettes. (that's where I go to smoke) All of which were actions committed by members of the grounds crew, no doubt. That has nothing to do with their ethnicity, and everything to do with the fact that the items were there before they showed up, but gone after. Being half-asleep, I read it to mean that we should record our electronics serial numbers because they could be seen by the lawn crew, from the windows. I actually asked how the members of the home-owners association figured out how they could see the serial numbers of our electronics, from the windows! To which i was told to "wake-the-fu*k-up" Anecdote aside, don't expect too much from the cops. We all expect them to be out there defending our individual best interests, but that's rarely how "crime" operates. We assign cops far too much bravado by assuming that they're out there on the front line, guns drawn, in defense of the american flag and "everything for which it stands", but they can be just as mundane as we all are. If something comes up that connects your incident with another, they'll do so. But don't expect anything to be done about it, much less get your stuff back. (write down the serial numbers and keep your reciepts...all you can do, really) |

The only robbed I've been is when some jackasses stole the Jolly Roger & China flags belonging my roommate off our porch years ago. They didn't take the French flag for some reason.
A friend of mine was home when a burgler broke in, mistaking it for an empty house. My friend, who is 6'3", probably around 250lbs, and has studied several martial arts for over a decade, knocked the guy out cold. After his arrest and release the idiot had the audacity to try and sue my friend. The judge laughingly threw the case out. Luckily I haven't been (really) robbed. If I ever do, the only real thing I own of value is toys. Lets hope the crook isn't a collector too.

I've had my place emptied out. and I do mean emptied. They even took cooking oil. They left one shoe and a bunch of hangers.
Thankfully insurance took care of it all. Funny, I actually knew the people that did it too as it turned out. But that is another story for another place... deano, again, I'm really sorry to hear about what happened, man. Not to be a schmuck or anything, but stop being so trusting, man. Lock your windows and whatnot before you leave your house. |

I'm really sorry anyone has to go through this kind of crap....
At an attempt to lighten up the situation: at least we still have our lives Just glad no one got hurt.. one of the posters talked about working at a dollar store.. and having their cash registered emptied out.. the whole time i was thinking "what if he was AT the register".. Some people just don't have any regard for lives.. Glad everyone is still here and able to tell their tale.. |
