I like GI JOE for the same reasons just about everyone else on here does, as a property we enjoyed at one time in our youth from whatever run we were most exposed to it. It could have been from the OG 80s Marvel comic and the 80s cartoon or both, or the later stuff and everything in between.
My real life work and responsibilities and experiences are/were too engaging for me to take anything online too seriously. I don't participate in social media at all unless you consider forums and YouTube social media but I am more referring to things such as Fb, IG, Snapchat and the like. Nothing that happens on here is going to effect my fandom for GI JOE. I'll like the characters/figures/vehicles that I like and dislike what I don't. |

On that note, I feel like it should be pointed out that the JoeArashikage that started this thread is different from the Joe_Arashikage in the Classified thread. They really need avatars to differentiate them. |

More people should've been punched in the face. It's a vital learning experience. One of my favorite hobbies in the military was watching a kid who'd clearly never been punched in the face learn that if you're a fucking prick to the wrong person, they will punch you in the face and everyone else will laugh because you had it coming. More face punching would save the rest of us a lot of grief from people who confuse having a slightly bad feeling one time for actual pain. Everyone fucking has anxiety, Brayden. We fucking deal with it and try to not make everyone around us miserable.

I realized that a long time ago. If you are passionate about something, share it with very few others. But I repeat my mistakes. Or just learn the life lesson, never be that passionate about anything (or anyone, probably). It'll only hurt you in the end. I for one stopped reading Larry Hama's work. It did nothing for me. If that makes me less of a GI JOE, then THANK GAWD. I thank Disney for ruining Star Wars, finally being slowly cured of a pop culture obsession is a good thing. LOL |

Fandom should be fun and a place to be a human with feelings and opinions about things that don't actually matter. Sports, toys, cars, movies, whatever.
My two cents: work on self-regulation. It's pretty easy to just breeze by the outrageous stuff with a little practice. Like SpottedEagle said, if anything here (or on some other fan site) is dragging you down or working you up, take a break, take a walk, shoot some hoops, really just do anything else. Life's too short. I take long breaks from the 'tank sometimes, but truth be told, I like it here. I interact with lots of folks here who are way different than me which is becoming harder and harder to find on the modern internet. I appreciate that about it. I'll pick on J James for a bit just to highlight what I mean. My dude has posted a bunch of stuff over the years that is about as far outside of my worldview as one can get. But I also remember when he posted here about some crazy family shit that was downright scary and riveting. And I genuinely look forward to his posts about comics and character lore. The guy has put a lot of time into understanding and appreciating characters across the joeverse and I've learned a lot from him. It's honestly deepened my love of GI Joe. I guess my point is that most of us are just messy humans with a lot going on and we'd all do well to give each other the space to be just that. Most of us anyway (shoutout to the bots who occasionally necro a good long dead thread!) tl;dr - This place can be super weird and pretty toxic, but also really beautiful and cool. Try to enjoy it while it lasts.

I?m tired and sad most days, and coming here doesn?t help. Not when I get attacked and picked apart for whatever I post or whether or not I buy the figures in a timely manner. And of late, people wanting to sabotage my efforts in making sure Zarana & Zandar remain, officially, twins. And I?m doing it alone for the most part.

This is amazing! We're getting a ZANDAR figure! ZANDAR featured prominently in the Cobra Commander series! Character development! It's a great time to be a Zandar fan! Thank you, Hasbro!!! |

Just now? How long have you been online? LOL

LOL It makes me less of a fan because I was in a time and place where I was just career focused, moved just about to the other side of the damn country, and lived in a one stop light town so comics and collecting wasn't even on my radar, especially given my living situation was temporary (even if it took several years for a change)? I don't think so. I'm right there with you regarding the new Star Wars stuff, though I was never as die hard as some folks. |
