We were taking up the Star Wars 3.75 discussion thread so
Since Chris Cocks Cocked up Hasbro is so popular, I decided to make a thread where we could continue the fun later. Star Wars 3.75 Page 2800 https://www.hisstank.com/forum/toys/...read-2800.html To page 2802+ https://www.hisstank.com/forum/toys/...read-2802.html xxxxxxxxxxxxx(Reposts on what's going on) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The Wizards of the coast division consists of Magic the gathering Dungeons and Dragons. xxxxxxxxxxx The short of it is the current CEO of Hasbro was the former head of this division. He fucked up the division before being failed upwards because the former CEO died. xxxxxxxxxx The magic the gathering division is in free fall and is now in a fan infighting decline due to massive greed. Recently Hasbro's planned monetization of Dungeons and Dragons got leaked. It basically says stuff like _______*in a stupid voice________ "no open game license thus" "not enough monetization" "all your DND scenarios are now belong to us" "you need to pay us license fee if you DND and make money" "all previous DND content need to pay us" "all you customer folks may owe us money to play DND. No exceptions" Considering the division keeps shoving weird politics in there and I do mean weird "Orcs are black people" (?????????) "monkeys with wings are racist" (?????????????????????????) "dark elves aren't bad people"(they're elitist torture hobos excuse me ?) "beholders just need a friend" (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????) With this and Hasbro Wizards insulting the previous DND creators and backstabbing them, making shit like the DND movie and cringe life style books, the DND division has been pissing people off for a long time and the anger has boiled over. Feel free to correct me or put your point of view, this is my short rough version. >>>>>>> Big take away is the current Hasbro CEO is the dilbert pointy hair boss in real life. Failing upwards, total failure xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wizards of the Coast division makes up huge amounts of their total sales and is their most profitable division. Which is why the DND news is crazy. It wasn't enough to Cock up Magic, but now we know they've cocked up DND too. Couldn't have exploded into a more deserving CEO's lap since he was the same guy who ran it into the ground as Division Head from 2016 until he took over as CEO in 2021. *edit 1/14/23 Here's a vid from Legal Eagle explaining it too if you want to spend 25 minutes etc. It's a pretty big deal for Dungeons and Dragons. Hasbro messing with it, pretty much destroys how Dungeons and Dragons works. *Edi 1/27/23 Hasbro Lays off 15% of staff over under performance and likely the Blueprint 2.0 becoming a turd thanks to the DND license fiasco. A major problem for Hasbro is that Blueprint 2.0 also revolves around Physical and virtual Gaming, AKA Wizards, aka Dungeons and Dragons and Magic, the division that might as well be Dumpsterfires. https://news.toyark.com/2023/01/26/h...f-staff-492148 https://www.jeditemplearchives.com/2...terrible-2022/ Posted by TheDarkone508. Yes, I can't believe Hasbro thought this shit would increase profits by 50% by 2025 just last year October 2022. Quote:
https://twitter.com/Hasbro/status/15...kMOBviJuQ&s=19 they deleted the original tweet, but that's the link. https://investor.hasbro.com/news-rel...25%20by%202027 Extra info for the current problems in the Magic division of Wizard Hasbro xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx If you have even more time, I added how Hasbro screwed up Magic the Gathering Side beginning at 13:23 minutes in the Philip De Franco Show. The Magic Tolarian describes perfectly what was going on and why Magic the Gathering can be described as in Civil War or Free fall. That final coffin moment with $1,000 for 4 packs of Core 30 boosters was just the final straw that broke the camel after Chris Cocks previously ran Wizards badly for many years beforehand as stated above. So yea, you can see why Bank of America downgraded their stock by 34% in November 2022. It was and probably still is a dumpster fire of stupid greed. To further illustrate the greed problem for Magic, here is the same Magic expert from the Franco video in the 1st 5 minutes of this video just reading the 2022 titles in the 1st 5 minutes of this video of all of the specialty Secret Lair product to give you an idea of how insane Hasbro is being. That is 72 products, which means they released more 40 dollar products in 2022 than there are weeks in a year just in the Secret Lair specialty items category. *Edit: 3/21/23 Hasbro directly Landfills Magic the gathering pallets and later on shreds them at a destruction facility. 250k of magic cards in Texas Landfill and reports across the country from Feb 2023 to March 2023 so far. https://old.reddit.com/r/pics/commen...c_tg_cards_at/ https://old.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/co...s_of_magic_tg/ https://old.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/co...rdian_article/ *Post date edit: 4/25/23 DND Movie Honor Among Thieves came out around March 31st . . . . and as of April 2023, it is the biggest Box Office Bomb this year. Ignoring the Hollywood political Fiesta (maybe Hollywood should shut up more.) and people boycotting due to Hasbro's DND asshating (understandable) , the fundamental problem that sealed the bombing was it released against THE SUPER MARIO MOVIE, one of the greatest Box Office smashes this year. Which destroyed it Box Office wise and booked all the 3-D premium ticket box and crushed the DND movie. *Edit: 4/25/23 Hasbro sent Pinkerton like agents to Coerce and try to collect the Magic the gathering product that was released early / Leaked from March of the Machine Aftermath, the set that's supposed to come out after March of the Machine. (My bad, I got this wrong earlier) (Our resident thread about it. Have fun) https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...gic-cards.html Links etc *Video change Edit: 4/26/23 The Youtuber that got the Pinkertons sent at him. https://old.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/co...ion_pinkerton/ https://old.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/co...eve_magic_the/ https://old.reddit.com/r/freemagic/c...ked_aftermath/ Mainstream news links https://www.kotaku.com.au/2023/04/wi...thering-cards/ https://www.engadget.com/magic-the-g...200040402.html 4/26/23 Magic Aftermath Leak mayhem. Turns out all the cards in the new set March of the Machine Aftermath set has been leaked now, so the Pinkertons being sent after that Youtuber to recover the product was worthless. 7/10/23 Turns out, there was a reason why the Pinkertons were sent. In April May, to make their Q1 2023 Financial report look good, they did a whole bunch of awful shit to boost profits like. Boosters now only give 5 cards Incredibly scammy Secret Lair sets like 0.36 cents of cards with easily available licensed lotr art for 40 dollars March of The Machines Aftermath in addition to lower 5 cards boosters that cost almost as much as normal boosters was designed to be one of the worst Draft sets to actually open and play in MTG history. 1. overpriced expensive boosters that only give 5 cards. 2. 50 cards set, but a lot of bad cards 3. Lots and lots of variants, thus tons of hard to identify cards and artwork when playing or drafting the set. 8/17/23 Hasbro WOTC division gets caught using AI generated art in Bigby Presents Glory of the Giants book: DND. For cost cutting probably. Or a rogue artist submission. Either way, the final product is of lower quality and Wizards got caught. Last edited by Snakeeyesisposh; 08-17-2023 at 06:34 AM.. Reason: Little blurb for AI art controversy |

Sisco's reposting of some of the Hasbro Weirdness
https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5609940-post28009.html Quote:
WOTC bought out D&D Beyond and have invested heavily into new features for the D&D Beyond online system. D&D beyond has ways to buy online versions of the Books, search those books, tools for players to make characters quickly and do all the math for you while playing, and for Dungeon masters to manage your whole D&D campaign online. It also allowed players to play the game over the internet.
Rumors are Hasbro invested upwards of 250 million on making the next D&D edition online with a virtual tabletop that will be heavily monetized. You will buy the rules, settings, classes, races, everything via microtransactions. The way its looking is Hasbro may not put out print versions of the next D&D edition but everything will be online, and everything will be monetized. Want to play wizrd that will be 5 D&D bucks, want to use dragon monsters thats gonna be 10 D&D bucks, want to be an elf $2 D&D bucks. Want your digital virtual tabletop character mini to have a cool lookng sword thats 1 D&D buck, etc... Now most ppeople are going to say "ef that" I'll play old editions, the new OGL Hasbro is pushing will make it harder to do that. Hasbros plan for the next D&D edition is to first revoke OGL 1.0. OGL 1.0 was created after the US court system ruled game rules and mechanics can not be trademarked and copyrighted thus anyone could make a D&D type role playing game. The OGL was made so Hasbro could separate D&D's unownable rules (Stats, Feats, Combat, Mechanics) from D&Ds intelletual propery (original monsters like Beholders, settings like Forgotten Realms , and characters like Drizzt), it was bascially to save Hasbro billions in legal fees. Basically the OGL guaranteed Hasbro wouldn't sue you if you made a D&D like content adhering to the rules of the OGL and encouraged you to make the game D&D compatible so it encouraged people buying your product to buy the official D&D books to run the content you make. It was a win win for everyone and saved billions in lawsuits for everyone in the industry. Under the leaked OGL the community got up in arms about the old OGL is terminated. Publishers and creators can no longer make content under it. All previously created material could not be released after Jan 13 20223. All material created after that date had to use the new OGL. The new OGL required people to give 25% royalties to Hasbro on anything that made more than $750,000, submit all created works to Hasbro, and give Hasbro an irrevocable license to use that work in anyway they see fit. This is really bad. For the last 23 years you could create an original setting, class, race, rules etc... that was unique and share it with other players with no chance of Hasbro sueing you under the OGL, you could even get your work published and sell it to others as long as it was original and didn't use any of Hasbros IP or replace any of Hasbros books. For example, for the last 23 years you could create a campaign setting, that can use the official D&D rules go to kickstarter, get it published for hundreds of thousands of dollars and maybe even make enough to have some pocket money left over. Most companies break even or barely make 5-15% profit if that on their published books through kickstarter after kickstarter fees. Now under the new OGL you suddenly owe 25% of the money you raised on kickstarter to Hasbro just because your book could be used in D&D. On top of that Hasbro can now take your book and republish it without giving you a dime because by agreeing to the new OGL you gave Hasbro ownership of everything you create thats OGL compatible. TLDR: In short Hasbro planned to make 3rd party D&D like content illegal to publish killing all 3rd party companies, sue any small time competitors that rose up, remove all old D&D material from sale, move D&D to an online monetized microtransaction virtual tabletop, and sieze anything a 3rd party created under the new OGL (most likely to monetize it on D&D Beyond). Their hope was to release the new OGL before Jan 13th and cause 3rd party companies and small content creators to panic sign up for the new OGL to keep selling their products without giving the 3rd parties enough time for their legal departments to read all the fine print. The OGL was leaked early and now the 3rd party companies have teamed up and told Hasbro to Foff we will create our own Open Gamming License without D&D intellectual property since game rules can not be owned by anyone under US law. Even shorter TLDR: Hasbro got greedy and tried to take everyones toys so you could rent them back from them, players and creators said nah bro we're all gonna take our toys over here and play without you. https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5610040-post28012.html Quote:
Its possible.
When WOTC released 4e they made sellers remove and send back all unsold 3.5e books to WOTC before they could receive the new 4e books. 3.5 was the most popular D&D system at the time and 4e ended up being horrible. Groups quickly went back to 3.5. They removed all the 4e books when 5e launched but no one cared it sold so bad anyway lol. Players that came to the hobby after 4e released to play with those 3.5 groups found it hard to get 3.5 player handbooks and the like. So those went up in value on the used market for a while. Eventually Pathfinder was made to fill the 3.5 product shortage. Pathfinder first edition came out and was compatible with 3.5. People wanted more settings, classes, races, monsters etc... to play in Pathfinder so the recalled and rarer 3.5 books that could be used in Pathfinder became very sought after and valuable as well, Monster Manuals 3-5 and other Monster focused books especially. The rarer 3.5 edition books still go for 2 to 3x their price but most are way down from their all time high prices as 5th edition is now the most popular version of D&D. 5e ends this year though so not a bad idea to grab some of the books if you want them, they will most likely be removed from stores by the launch of D&D ONE (6e) in early 2024. I'd avoid the Original 3 books though, Monster Manual, Players Handbook, and Dungeon Masters guide though as those are mass printed and extremely common if you are looking at this as an investment. https://www.hisstank.com/forum/5610059-post28014.html |

And there ye go. I doubt we will get moderated, but at the very least, if anyone wants to track this stuff back down, I got a thread up to
refer to about Chris Cocks up Dungeons and Dragons. (And to those new to the discussion, the current Hasbro CEO's name is indeed Chris Cocks) |

I joked in the last thread that people should buy up the old books before they are discontinued (because it seems like that and not the forthcoming system is what people will want to play).
I think I still have the D&D starter set (before it became Advanced D&D). |
