Wow
The rumors about all the Path Finder Rule books being sold out are true. All of my local Gaming shops for miles are sold out indefinitely. Apparently people didn't just save the old rule books. Lots are simply changing ships. I wonder where this is gonna go. Incredible. |

The rumors about all the Path Finder Rule books being sold out are true. All of my local Gaming shops for miles are sold out indefinitely. Apparently people didn't just save the old rule books. Lots are simply changing ships. I wonder where this is gonna go. Incredible. For all past editions Wotc pulled the previous editions books from retail as soon as the new edition launched so chances are by Early 2024 D&D 5e books may be unavailable to buy and no physical D&D 6e books may be made. The exec in charge is convinced D&D is undermonetized and wants remove the physical media manufacturing costs and change the monetization of D&D from a min 1 time purchase of 3 books per gaming table: DM Guide, Monster Manual, Players Guide (about $150 if not bought on sale) to a recurring $30 a month per player at the table. The exec hoped that by revoking the old OGL they would immediately cause all 3rd party competitors to be unable to publish alternative physical OGL games by the end of the year so if someone wants to come in new and play D&D next year it would be D&D Beyond only or try and hunt down 5e used books. Luckily Pathfinder got smart a few years back and made Pathfinder 2e to future proof their game and make it so they wouldn't be under the OGL anymore. Pathfinder 2e can be played for free using their online reference guides but if you want Physical copies its max purchase of $100 per table for the Core Rulebook and a Bestiary book (way cheaper on sale and even way cheaper if you get the pocket editions instead of hardbacks). And it can be played online via many virtual tabletop services if you want a virtual tabletop group. Pathfinder is now standalone and no longer under WOTC's OGL restrictions but authorizes people to use Pathfinder content under the old OGL 1.0a (they are now making their own OGL called ORC that can never be revoked so you can do all the things you could do with D&D for the last 23 years forever using Pathfinder or other ORC gaming systems. the thing about pathfinder that was a major turn off for me, is i think it was based off 3.5 dnd. 3.5 is like, you need a book for everything - even how to let your character sneeze; and then pathfinder takes how you need your character to sneeze but more in depth.
5e was the best thing since 2e to casually play the game and arent super rules and dice heavy. i cut my teeth playing a couple of games of 2e and really enjoyed it. i played a couple of 3.5 and hated it. i played 5e or nearly 2 years (it's hard to wrangle people interested to play these things) and had a great time. so, what i'm saying, is if you accidentally were to write "dungeons and dragons 2e pdf" or even "5e pdf" into a browser and some how these files were to make their way into your downloads folder... 2e is so far out that hasbro doesnt have any interest in it, so you're likelier to find more vintage out of print pdf content if you have morals you'd end up wrestling with. and if you're interested in other types of vintage out of print role playing games, i know a guy that found a truckload on 4shared.com. |

Wow Sisco, that Hasbro stuff sounds like insanity.
Perpetual subscription for 12 months would be 360 usd for something you can pirate in seconds. Quote:

Paizo already confirmed Pathfinder 2e is safe from all this OGL crap and will be available for years to come. Also you don't need the books to play Pathfinder you can do it legally and free via their online rules via their System Rules Document https://pf2.d20pfsrd.com/ and the searchable Database https://2e.aonprd.com/?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1 The Pathfinder books exist for the pretty art, lore, and playing without electronics. D&D 2e is only available used, I don't think the reprints from a few years ago are even available to buy anymore. Basically the difference between Hasbro and Paizo is Hasbro wants your money. While Paizo wants to employ the roleplaying industry creators. writers, and artists (most from D&D past editions) and support the hobby. Paizo got its start when Hasbro cut a ton of staff from WOTC and canceled the adventure modules and print magazines from D&D so a lot of writers and artists lost their income. They grew when 3.5 was removed from sale and the horrendous 4e came out and more employees were canned. Paizo expanded to producing Novels when D&D cut the D&D novels from their merchandise and a lot of fantasy writers were suddenly without income. Paizo is basically right across town from WOTC and provides steady work for most of the freelance writers and artists in the Tabletop industry, many of whom provide the art for D&D as well. Another reason people are ticked at Hasbro all these people would have been without steady jobs and freelance work if Hasbro's original plans hadn't been called out. I haven't enjoyed D&D since Critical Role got their hooks into the mainstream and changed the hobby-wide table culture. I still have my AD&D 2nd edition books, but I haven't felt inspired to play that game in years.
Frankly, I'm happy to watch it all burn. I'll still be here when the Anakin-like husk of Hasbro comes begging to sell me more O-rings so they can pay rent and keep the lights on, though. |

anyway. people play online, i hated doing that mess above in person. im not interested in it online. i need a small group of people that want to play all kinds of bogus and cool shit. today's news: Quote:
First, though, let me start with an apology. We are sorry. We got it wrong.
one of the comments someone posits that it's hasbro, just making it clear, that's not me, but i do believe 100% this bullshit going on right now is hasbro's doing. wotc, while a fuck up company, isnt a big stupid like hasbro has been the last 5 years. and look at that, a damn collective of dungeons and dragons fans chapped hasbro and wotc's ass so hard over this they walked back their plans. action figure collectors beg and plead for another figure no matter the price hike. at a certain point we need to say enough too. i hate those people that have to have everything no matter the cost or what it is just to have it - they dont help at all. |
