@Smokebellew, unfortunately, the traffic is really what's going to make or break your experience. There are of course other means of selling your stuff, but none of them are going to bring the sheer amount of exposure eBay does. Taking this into consideration, the fees are "worth it". They still suck though, especially given the last rate increase that hit a year or so ago.
Also, I feel where your brother is- those are called "defects" in eBay's terminology, and they're not exactly forthcoming about what counts as a defect, nor do they let you know when you're about to go over the allowed number of them. Back when I was using eBay as a sole source of income, I had three separate buyers in the course of a year ghost on payment. Smart guy that I am, I figured I'd just cancel rather than hassle with the UPI cases. That bit me right in the ass though, because I awoke one morning to a message informing me of a 50% rate increase. What's more is that each defect hangs on to your account for a year. Fucking extortion. There's a definitely a market for stuff like that so if a quick sale is priority I'd turn to eBay or even the local community if you're in or near a major city. |

I'd echo this which pretty much sums it up in terms of why use eBay vs other places to sell stuff. Much wider exposure meaning higher chances to transact with collectors of equal or greater purchase power and that comes with an ever increasing fee. Selling items in lots locally (and adjusting the price), that's if putting time aside is not an issue, is not a bad idea either because it may also turn out to be quick and painless.

Same goes for where I live...I'd stick with a price that beats similar eBay listings and use that as leverage to negotiate. After seeing actual items nobody wants to pay more on eBay and even risk going through their return process if condition is not what had been described.

because my name is "salvation army." in all seriousness, salvation army's the better bet. more people get helped with salvation army. goodwill gets the majority of the donations, but the ceo has bragged about getting raises and not actually having a product to produce. im not sure if it still happens but there were serious wage issues for people with disabilities at goodwill too - many being taken advantage of. |

Hope all is well! Use eBay for the most part. After getting advice here a couple of years ago, set everything for “Buy it now” with “best offers” turned on. Check recently sold for the item to get an idea on price. Will generally list on the higher side and either someone pays that or makes a reasonable offer. Great option if not in a hurry to sell things. Otherwise, auctions is the way to go if in a hurry. Just make note of the number of feedbacks for potential buyers, the lower the number can sometimes be flakey. Good luck! Also, Fees are lame, but piece of mind balances out, plus shipping is cheaper than going into the post office or one of the other big carriers.

I use Poshmark sometimes to buy or sell some stuff. It has its issues, of course, but when I contacted their customer service here https://poshmark.pissedconsumer.com/...r-service.html, they solved them really quickly. For me, it's the best marketplace.

You can look into etsy an alternative for selling if you're selling vintage toys. It is primarily more for selling crafted items, but there is a fair selection of vintage toys, and I noted a decent amount of Joe 25th.
The other alternative is try to find a reseller who does flea markets, toy shows and online sales. You will probably only get 50-60% of the actual value, but you should be able to do cash deals and not have to worry about the $600 tax reporting by the payment websites. |

Aliexpress? I've been using it for years, making the occasional purchase of different goods. The stuff that might be found on Amzon or eBay, are often found at a lower price on Aliexpress. Even though I faced shipping / not receiving problems a couple of times, everything could be solved addressing aliexpress customer service. They returned money or shipped the goods again. Generally, no important complains.

Mercari is good for finding (not often) little treasures for way cheaper than most other sell/buy platforms. I once got blocked by a seller for asking too many questions but hey this is a cancel culture we're living in so I considered it "normal", still they have a fairly easy to use phone App and a ton of GI Joe stuff.
