I like your avatar Omegawrath. Heel Slaughter was an important part of my youth and it's good to see him.
I find some of the battles to be amusing and would miss them if they weren't there. Just like we all enjoy watching Cobra and GI Joe battle each other we also like watching opposing opinions battle each other. You should be proud to be apart of something that's given others enjoyment. If it bothers you though, I think you should avoid it. I do believe there is a place for conflict in the universe, without it we would lack free will. |

Please stop talking. The amount of insider information that you have is exactly zero.
Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

Arguments on message boards are normal, but RoC brought the tank somewhere it never needed to go.
I joined last year, when RoC was still in development and nobody knew anything except who some of the actors were going to be. At that time, most people happened to get along and while there was still the occasional flame-war, most were not offensive and much of the arguing was friendly. As RoC got closer and we found out more details, the tank started to divide. As one of the 'on the fence' tankers who didn't like all the nay-saying, but at the same time felt the same dissappointment with most of what we we finding out, it was interesting and a bit frustrating watching fellow members de-evolve into mindless ranters, either posting the same opinion 300 times on 300 different threads, or taking every opportunity to try to antagonize other tankers who felt differently. Both sides are equally as guilty, the haters for the non-stop derailment of any positive threads or posts of RoC, and the supporters, for bashing both the ranters and those who voiced intelligent reasons for disliking the new direction. Now the movie has gone. Many haters now have stated the movie wasn't as bad as they had expected (some even like it) and a few supporters that, once actually having seen the movie, had their bubbles burst and had to admit that the movie was far more flawed than they had hoped. We are all responsible for our own behavior and it is up to us to make the tank as friendly as it was. In the last few weeks, I've noticed the mood here get generally lighter as the high emotions are fading. G.I. Joe belongs to all of us, whatever incarnation it is currently in, it still exists in whatever form we grew to love. I'm still glad to be a tanker and I think this is one of the coolest fan sites with the best community I have ever been a part of. Lets hope we can keep the place fun, at least until the RoC sequal! |

what I think it boils down to is entitlement. I'm generalizing and averaging here but at any given time there are a few hundred thirty-somethings here who feel that their vision of GI Joe is the one, only and true incarnation. And there is no wonder we feel a sense of entitlement. This has been a love and passion for most of us for over 25 years now. To put this into perspective the average marriage lasts eight years before it ends in divorce. Here we are still going strong after all this time.
Now add in the fact that you have people who want to defend others who share the same point of view or friends that they have made on here. Then you have people who join in mid conversation, or come in after things have passed the boiling point where the staff has had to intervene. At that point you have people who are pissed off because their fight was broken up or others that are pissed because they didn't get their say in the fight or just missed it all together. So what's next? Simple, go pick another fight. I've seen this countless times. It isn't that there are more people here full of "nerd rage" it is just those who are angry have a louder voice. And some people just don't know how to let something go. I mean it is hard for a sleeping dog to lie while somebody is beating a dead horse. The last thing I want is for everybody to agree on the same point of view. Some of the people I consider good friends on here have a far different opinion than me. That is one of the things that I like about them. I just wish that people could find a way to express their point of view in a respectful manner. I love a good debate but there is no such thing as a good argument. |

I don't think that ROC is the only issue. I've noticed some tankers who act very elitist-you know, "This is my/our thread and you can't play b/c you're not smart enough", etc. No one has ever said that to me, but I've sensed that vibe. We're not always going to get along because we're all unique, but we should try to be civil to each other and not act like this is a team being picked in gym class.

P.S. I think I've proven that intelligence and elitism have nothing to do with eachother. Last edited by Headman; 08-23-2009 at 01:15 PM.. |
