I'm reading "Adaptations: from short story to big screen: 35 great stories that have inspired great films" by Stephanie Harrison. Totally LOVE this book's premise (the title is pretty much self-explanatory). Plus, it is so much fun to read the short story first (without looking at the introduction), then try to guess what film it inspired. (Which is not nearly so obvious as one might imagine, in many cases.)

I received some David Eddings books for Christmas(one of my favorite authors), so I am currently reading the Elenium trilogy. I haven't read it in around twenty years, so it's great to come back to it.

i've been wanting to have a miniwargaming/skirmish game to create a story for my action figures that continues the character i created the last time i played dungeons and dragons.
the idea is basically what the guy behind empire toyworks did with his self custom but a fleshed out story. i have my custom of myself done, one of my son, but when it comes to a game to play im struggling. i have 5 parsecs from home, that's what im settled on now, but oh my god. even as thin as it is to start playing there's still too much work. i just want to roll dice and make a narrative. my most recent read was notorious, another rpg, i thought there were miniature elements but i cant even figure this one out. all bounty hunters. i thought it'd be neat to do but like every other miniwargaming rpg i cant wrap my head around it. it's pretty frustrating and my son's going to be too old to play with anything by the time i get scenery built, as well as a game figured out. |
