I've done some lowball offers from time to time as well, but nothing so low as to be insulting. You'd be surprised at how many sellers are just trying to move product and will accept it. I've also made offers on sales that don't have best offers and the seller will revise the listing and allow me to make best offers.
I've never really had any truly rude people on Ebay, either buying or selling over the years(and I'm close to 600 100% feedback), except for one guy, nuke250-fuck that guy. Mohrmbm is very good, I've bought a few things from him, as well as Wheeljackslab. Too bad cooterkins, i.e. Midwest Vintage Toys is so popular, as he has great stuff, but his auctions always seem to bid up too high. And whoever 757gijoes is, he sends best offers and coupons all the time, but it's always only 5% off...of overpriced stuff...no thank you. Fun money saving aside in regards to seller offers: If I feel like an item is just outside of my ceiling, rather than make an offer, I'll just put it in my cart. Many, many sellers will send a discounted offer after awhile. I've gotten a ton of pretty good deals this way. My cart is always loaded up. On edit: It occurs to me that "lowball" is kind of a subjective term. As an example, say an '84 Stormshadow regularly sells at $100, you offer $50; to me, that's lowballing. I tend to offer within the 10-15% off range, provided the figure is appropriately priced. On the other hand, if the same SS is listed at around $200, I'd still offer the $85-90 (I actually wouldn't even click the listing- but you see my point). I don't consider that lowballing, I consider that magical thinking on the part of the seller.

Yeah, 757 is exactly who I was thinking of when I made the comment about not actually wanting to sell anything. They also mislabel items as complete and end/relist items to the point of almost being spam. Dude, it's not that we can't see your listings, it's that we don't want them at that price. One of my money saving tactics is to just search "G.I. Joe>BIN>newly listed" so I can see almost anything being listed as it comes up- seeing the same listings day in and out can get annoying, especially when there are so many.

Also, another seller who obviously doesn't want to sell anything is joe**daddy...his prices are absolutely ridiculous. I want to ask him what he's thinking. He actually bought a few of the modern joes I sold last year, and then relisted them at twice-three times what I sold them to him for. They are still there. i offer half. some people have bitten on it. some people reply with a lower offer, and i usually take it for that. one dollar less, i usually dont.
reason is, i shouldnt be spending the money anyway. but if i get a deal? awesome. i'll appreciate that thing even more. i do make sure to say "thank you for considering my offer" instead of a blank message with a price. that way they have some idea im not a total piece of shit. if you dont want to take offers, dont put them up as an option; and if you have a lowest selling price, set it so anything less so those lowball offers dont get through. I used to get upset with sellers making counteroffers that were $.25 less than asking price, until I realized that they probably didn't want offers to begin with. I was also receiving offers that I know I didn't want them on. UGH. HM

Sellers are just as bad with the descriptions, its a 2 way street! I really like the ones that claim they have no knowledge or damage of what they are selling yet they have sold a ton of the stuff & the price point is spot on! And there is a difference between low ball & reasonable offers! Sometimes a reasonable offer is an insult to a seller who think they are selling a very rare holy grail when in reality its a common item!

i check my auction after i list. i remember having the hardest time getting my shit off the global shipping program. i literally do not want to give any opportunity for my item to get lost and be responsible for it no matter how ebay says it's protected.
i flat out refuse to ship anything to italy because it's postal service is so notoriously bad, that the most unscrupulous know it and take advantage of out of country sellers. so, the offers thing, yeah that's another, but that's because ebay wants you to sell things. they're thinking "hey, if they get an offer on it, they might take it." not "hey, they have this set up to take offers, i'll leave it alone." |

I hate the option thing, because eBay is sneaky with it; they actually add the "Take Offers" option to your auction on their own. I ALWAYS select "No Offers" and then as you go down the rest of the listing, they actually CHANGE it, so I have to go back again to deselect it.

A little effort goes a long way.
