1. The industries focus away from my preferred action figure scale. The focus on 6 inch rather then 3.75 inch scale.
2. Pricing. Too expensive. 3. Lack of creativity. Same characters re-done over and over. 4. Lack of vehicles. Specifically mid-range sized vehicles to my preferred scale. Both are phased out effectively due to the 6 inch scale and fan funded projects. 5. Modern hollywood's influence. Largely negative influence. 6. Modern corporatism. Just seems more heartless. No Toys R Us etc. 7. Modern toy packaging shifting to be "greener". Lack of plastic bubbles, traditional cards. The flimsy boxes and tissue paper. This really upsets me. What are you reasons for quitting? |

I can't disagree with most of your points. I will say that your preferred scale seems to be coming back though (3.75). If you don't want to support Hasbro you can support the o-ring kickstarters coming up in May and June as well.

I agree with HitandRun, it's almost impossible to disagree with most of your points. I'd also say that even though the current focus seems to be on 6" scale, there are independent companies nevertheless that are heavily focused on making awesome modern action figures.
In terms of pricing, I don't see why toys can be the exception to the never ending price increase in goods, whether be due to transportation costs, shortages of parts or inflation. Moderate/selective collecting may be one way to cope with that and allow you to NOT quit. I find that helpful. Referring to characters being redone makes me think of certain company policies that are not necessarily shared by other independent companies. I'd argue there's a ton of creativity being poured into making modern figures but then again I'm thinking companies like Boss Fight and Marauders. I totally agree with you about not seeing any mid-range or larger scale vehicles these days, I don't like that either and wish we'd see larger scale flying jets like the Skystriker or similar. In that sense, Wayward Goat Collectibles saved the day with the Modular Armored Range Vehicle (MARV) so I hope they come up with a Falcon or an F-14 down the road. Largely negative hollywood influence that never seems to help in any way. Also modern heartless corporatism - no Toys R Us or similar brick and mortar stores. Totally with you on those two. Never cared for toy packaging as I prefer to open stuff to display and take pictures of. But yeah making things "greener" and cutting costs won't change anytime soon. I can see why that would irritate collectors. To sum it up, the reason I'm NOT quitting is that I continue to be excited in anticipation of a toy/collectible release because I recognize this is a great time for 3.75"/4" modern figure collectors given the plethora of options/companies. That may not be the case with Hasbro but that may potentially change; until that happens, HitandRun was right to mention that you can support the o-ring kickstarters coming up in May and June. At the end of the day, I feel it's the gravity and degree of how pissed one may feel that will determine if quitting makes sense or not. That will definitely drown whatever excitement there's left. I only collect figures with little to no exposed skin. If they don't come with a mask, I give them one. (see my signature)

E. None of the above? Changes in life priorities I think for me. I need space for kids sports equipment and other family things and the budget gets sucked up by other priorities even though I constantly churn the collection.
Corporate strategy, prices, Toys R Us self inflicted demise, packaging, vehicles, or scale none of that factors in. I?m keeping the favorite things in the collection. I?m 2 years away from sending my oldest to college so the next wave of classified or what?s in 3.75 or 6 inch is not very relevant anymore. I look at everything and if I don?t intensely like having or don?t bring it out to display it?s going out the door.

Like the "Hollywood" thing...shit, if anything, Hollywood makes me want to buy MORE toys.

crap-ass articulation like fudge-ugly chest hinges that give male figures major man-boobs.
