I'm triple vaxxed, and am one of only about 3 people in my company that haven't had it. Luckily I spend half my time alone in an office now, but the other half and all of last year were spent in hospitals repairing equipment. I'm a desensitized bastard, but man, some of the shit I've seen even hits me sometimes.

I've been wearing a mask since this started almost religiously, more for my wife, son, young niece, my elderly mom and others than protecting myself. I kept it up even after we all got vaxxed, and then my mom was diagnosed with cancer last year so I started being even more cautious. As Biz said, just masking and staying further away from the great unwashed totally wiped out the annual cold I normally get.
All that said, in July of 2020 I got hit by something I've never experienced before. It closed up my throat and sinuses so bad I could barely drink, couldn't really eat, and vomited anything I did manage to consume. No cough though, or loss of taste/smell beyond my sinuses being plugged. I have no idea what the fuck that was, but I sometimes wonder if it was Covid and that's how it affected me for some reason. They're finally talking about a genetic component to this weirdness and that some have a predisposition for this to effect them in really awful ways. It killed a friend my age who was in excellent health that same year. Another friend of mine has long Covid and still feels fatigued and fucked up after a year or so. It's a creepy damn thing, and I'm sick of the whole business.

Day 14. This is the first day where I feel better than the day before. I ended up in the ER the night before last. On meds to try to get some strength back now. Slow process.

Preschool opened up three weeks ago and after 5 days my 3 year old son caught COVID. I'm vaccinated and boosted and caught it from my son. So far our symptoms have been moderate. He's just had a low grade fever, runny nose, and a cough. I've got the runny nose, cough, sore throat, and feeling tired. Feels like one of those colds that last a fews days but I haven't had a fever yet. Can't imagine how much worse I would have felt if I weren't vaccinated. Still not a pleasant experience and I almost made it to two years without catching it. Schools are a petri dish for spreading disease.

Even with the Vaccines, I was laid out flat in bed for a Week with a massive headache from one of the milder new strains. My sister was coughing Mucus all the time, and had chills and hot flashes, so I guess I got it easy. My Father got it and spread it in succession to EVERYONE in the family despite NO ONE GETTING NEAR HIM!! His coughing got one person, then that person spread it to both of us when she had no symptoms and then she got sick. We lost a week and then we lost another week or two due to the testing required to prove we're not sick anymore. Most pain in the ass disease and that's with the Vaccines. |
