I was really into ECW circa 1995, and loved watching the amazing stuff that Benoit, Malenko, and Guerrero eventually brought to WCW. In fact, before the incident a couple years ago, my favorite wrestler was Chris Benoit. Now it is probably Bret Hart/Hart Foundation, though Owen was always my favorite when I was a teen, and is still up there. Other than that, I love vintage Macho Man, Million $ Man Ted Dibiase, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Big Van Vader, the Great Muta, Steve Austen/Hollywood Blondes, the British Bulldogs (particularly the Dynamite Kid), Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude, the 4 Horsemen (Flair, Andersons, Blanchard), Steve Regal, Rick "the Model" Martel, etc. etc. In the earlier 2000s, I was really into the great Kurt Angle. I also enjoy Japanese wrestlers, particularly the Jr. guys like Le Ultimo Dragon, Koji Kanemoto, Shinjiro Otani, Satoru Sayama, Jushin "Thunder" Liger, KENTA, Taka Michinoku, etc. And bigger guys like the All Japan crew (Kenta Kobashi, Mitsuhara Misawa, etc.), Masahiro Chono, Kensuke Sasaki, Shinya Hashimoto.
I also enjoy some of the Ring of Honor stuff, particularly the "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson, though I haven't paid much attention to them for a couple years now. I wish there was less tragedy in this great drama/sport. |

OK
So for those "old skool" guys, you should get a kick out of this. I have been a wrestling fan for nearly 20 years and have expanded my wrestling knowledge beyond the last 40. What I saw today, was just great. Jakks Pacific produced the WWE wrestling figures and has done so since 1996. They starting producing an uber popular series called Classic Superstars. Essesntially what they have done is issued wrestling figures based on nearly every wrestler from every era and every organization from the NWA, to AWA, WCW and WWF/WWE. It seems that with the series, they have produced nearly every single name (with the noted exception of Macho Man). Seems they are now delving into those lesser known wrestlers (or their counter parts). Think Road Warriors and Legion of Doom. Same guys, different looks/different company. Anyway The newest series features Andre the Giant disgused as Super Giant Machine from his earlier days. Also in the series was The Shockmaster. COMPLETE with silver Storm Trooper helmet! Now if you aren't familiar with the Shockmaster, let me enlighten you. Shockmaster was formerly Tugboat/Typhoon in the WWF/WWE. Check out: The Accelerator's Wrestling Rollercoaster When he made the jump to WCW in 1993, he "debuted" live on TV by smashing his way through a wall as he was introduced by Sting and The Britsh Bulldog. They were introducing him as their tag team partner along with Dusty Rhodes against the team of Harlem Heat, Vader and Sid Viscious. Unfortunately for him, he proceeded to fall flat on his ass while losing his helmet (a silver painted Star Wars Storm Trooper mask). Remember now, this was prior to the advent of the Internet's widespread community of wrestling fans that spread the ever changing news of the industry. People "knew" it was him but the info was not as widely disapated. Kayfabe actually still meant something back then and it was easier to keep a wrestling angle a secret. Now, if you pay attention, the announcers are rather quiet and the audience is laughing their heads off at the mess. Once everyone composes themselves, the Shockmaster "speaks." It was actually another wrestler (Ole Anderson) off screen talking into a voice changer. Needless to say, Tugb--err SHOCKMASTER wasn't around much after that. All in all, I thought this figure was/is a great example of wrestling (WWE particularly) taking a not too serious look at itself and being able laugh about these pieces of Wrestlecrap. Look up the other versions of the video that are unedited. This is one of the most classic screw-ups to ever take place and is legendary in the industry.
