I hope you can help me with a quick question which will help my Flagg custom build. In regards to the big white mobile crane seen on US Aircraft Carriers:
1) What is it called? 2) What is it used for? 3) Who drives it? As in what colour shirts? I suspect blue but maybe brown? Thanks |

Are you referring to the "tilly" crash and salvage recovery cranes?
https://mobile.twitter.com/usnavy/st...030852?lang=en Quote:
Includes mobile shipboard crash and salvage "Tilly" cranes, used on the flight decks of aircraft carriers. Also called Flight deck casualty crane, Aircraft Carrier Crash Crane.
If so, they're for crash recovery. No idea what color shirts drive them. Looks like maybe red in the one photo?

Not bad! I think it would benefit from some beefier wheels if you can manage it to help give it a more hulking presence.
You can get spare wheels from this huge tractor from Bruder (I'm not sure just how big the wheels are...the rear wheels may actually be too big): https://www.brudertoys.com/en/assort...axion-950.html Front wheels: https://bruderparts.com/products/433...xion-950-4-c15 Rear wheels: https://bruderparts.com/products/433...xion-950-4-c16 Or maybe some sets of these steerable rear wheels from this harvester: https://www.brudertoys.com/en/assort...harvester.html Axle and 2-wheels assembly: https://bruderparts.com/collections/...guar-980-4-h17 Then again, maybe I'm overthinking it. I could go broke customizing Bruder stuff so I am perhaps not the best influence here...

Tilly is what that crane is nicknamed. It’s used by crash and smash and they are one of the types that wear red flight deck jerseys.

Walmart has a line of tractors that could provide the wheels you want/need for around $12.
