I am curious. For those who deal in buying and selling toys online frequently, how often do you suffer a loss? How often does a package not show up and you end up being the one on the hook? How often does a buyer screw you with a bogus complaint causing loss of your sale and merchandise? Or how often does a "return" end up being a loss because of shenanigans...ect?
This is just a curiosity, but I'm kinda trying to eyeball what the expected loss rate would be for some writing I'm working on. 5%? 10%? Thanks. Epic Rants are welcome.

For the past couple years I've done a decent amount of sales, but small-time compared to those that do a ton. I'd say I had about 200-250 listings sold last year. I don't think I had a single loss. I had 3 or 4 people try and scam me, but their scam quickly falls apart when you say "I'll be happy to refund you. I can get you a prepaid shipping label and once you mail the item back I will refund you". None of them wanted to mail the item back and they dropped their made up issue.
I also had several packages temporarily lost, but eventually turned up. Maybe I just got lucky, I dunno. It also helps that I'm a one man operation and carefully package everything and usually ship next day.

This is just a curiosity, but I'm kinda trying to eyeball what the expected loss rate would be for some writing I'm working on. 5%? 10%? Thanks. Epic Rants are welcome. Only had one issue ( in 14 years) where an item arrived damaged. Buyer would have been cool with a partial discount but I just sent him a full refund, he was a repeat highe spender anyway. eBay doesn’t actually permit partial refunds and I’d prefer to keep everything on the up and up. Let the guy keep the item for free to keep a big spender happy. I had one issue (in 14 years) where some guy tried to come at me hard and fast to put me off my balance accusing me of being less than clear about an issue with the card. I’m the type of seller who puts in extensive photos and a paragraph about any flaws so I held my ground from the yappy little bitch. I told him to return the item and I’d even pay for the return shipping, he didn’t feel like it. So I know he was scamming with high pressure tactics to grift me for some money back for no reason. Not going to grift a New Yorker, ever. We invented high pressure sales tactics. I told him it was full refund or nothing and he shut his mouth. By far and wide I’d say 99.9% of my experiences are very pleasant. The only thing that gets annoying is people looking to chew you down or for a discount, I always come up with a polite reply in case I can’t sell the item so I have the fish on the hook, then I’ll consider the offer to make the sale. You never want to insult a potential customer.

I've been lucky, the one issue I ever had was really my own fault- I put too much faith in the structural integrity of something I'd built and it suffered a minor break in transit. Luckily, the buyer was super cool about it (Wittrus something or other), and only asked for the price of some wood glue for a repair. Other than that, its been nothing but clear sailing.
As a buyer, on the other hand, it seems as though I have to deal with some form of fuckery every other week.

Na Beach that happens to me about once every 3-6 months. No idea what it’s all about but you’re not alone.

Most with buyers have been flat out not paying which there are avenues to follow. I haven’t had an issue with not receiving an item that was paid for since way back in the beginning of eBay when you paid with checks and money orders. Receiving an item that was significantly not as described, I’ve been really lucky there as well and not run into issues to get upset about and anything I have had an issue with the seller easily and readily resolved the matter to my satisfaction.
