A G.I. Joe bandwagon fan would be someone that watches the movie, gets the toys, comes on here saying what a big fan they are, but as soon as the next property comes around, forgets all about Joe until the next movie and then comes back and says "remember me and what a huge fan I am"
Thank god there's not that many of them. |

But there is a problem, it has to be change that you think is okay and fits your definition of "respect to the canon".
A Middler feels the same way, but is more open to the idea that there can be a version of the property that is fairly removed from their favorite, a new canon so to speak, and it can still be part of the overall property. |

strangely, where is he group of people that love G.I. Joe, read all the comics from 20 years ago, watch the cartoons, have a vintage RAH MOC and MIB collection, but also love to see new incarnations and new takes. your two class structure seems to leave out a great many other people, which makes it unrealistic and thus not applicable. so, why would Hasbro cater to a concept that doesn't reflect reality? |

I'd rather have a ton of new fans that stick around and help keep the toys on the shelves even past the 3rd movie, instead of just leaving and hoping on the next franchise that comes around.

essentially you are saying that only you should matter, and then you are projecting your preferences onto a group to hopefully not seem so unreasonable.

Last I looked the franchise was still going strong with the comics. There's a cartoon going on (or did that just end?) and the movies produced a 4th movie and they're discussing maybe 2 more other movies. How is that a destroyed franchise?

I never said only "I" should matter. Lets look at the history of GI JOE. Which era has produced the most fans and the most money. Is in the pre ARAH days? Maybe it's the "dark days" of 94-01? It could be the Sigma Six era? It's pretty clear to me that ARAH is the definitive era for GI JOE. Therefore to me that is canon.
So only your brand matters? I'm as much an ARAH fan as you are. So is Gunslinger, JMACQ1 and all the others.

let's say for example: You watch ROC and are so disgusted by it, that you don't want them to make more. However the movie and merchandise does so well that they keep making more movies until the 3rd one just completely destroys what you have such a passion for. Is that going to be worth it? Are you going to be satisfied? Are you going to be happy knowing that they will most likely never revive the franchise that you grew up loving? Good example of what to do is the Spiderman movies. Have they followed everything exactley? No. Have they kept the hardcore fans happy? Yes. Are you excited for the 4th and 5th? I dunno but I am.

and if there is a new version that can create the same level of success today, than there is no need to adhere to outdated details from RAH. |
