I keep a checklist and every 6 months I review it, if more than half of these are YES then start looking for a new job.
Lack Passion? Miserable Every Morning? Co. Sinking? Dislike Team/Boss? Consistently Stressed/Negative/Unhappy @ Work? Work Stress is affecting Health? Don't fit with Corp. Culture / Don't believe in the Co. anymore? Performance is suffering? No longer have good Work / Life balance? Skills not being used? Job duties have increased but pay hasn't? Ideas not being heard? Bored / Stagnating ? Experiencing Verbal Abuse? |

Frankly, no workplace in the world is devoid of these issues and if you’re a part time subordinate, the best thing you can do for your sanity is to just do your job as asked. If you can’t bear that, then maybe you ought to quit. But I agree that it is never a good idea to quit one job before you have another.
