One time a girl let me pet her skunk outside of the gas station. True story. It tried to eat my subway. Quite friendly animals despite that

Funny story there. I live in the woods, and as woods peopl do, we have barn cats. One night, real late after a few pints, I'm sitting out back decompressing before bed. Along comes a "cat", and I'm a cat guy, so fuck it, I call it over... Only to realize as it steps into the light 2 feet away that my "cat" is black with a nice white stripe down the back. He froze, I froze, and then he went on his merry way. I don't try and associate with my cats after dark any longer.

It's true man, and in all honesty I've realized that they've gotten a bit of a bad rap. In fact, growing up here, the only times I've known them to spray is when very startled, usually by a dog, or when they unfortunately get run over. Most wildlife does, in fact; I spend more hours than most deep in the woods alone, and have frequently come across black bears, mountain lions, etc., and for the most part they just want to do them and for you to do you, and are perfectly content if you behave as though you belong there... I stick by raccoons though. They can fuck right off. And city racs are even worse- if I saw one with a switchblade I would not be the least bit surprised.
Squirrels ( chickarees in particular) can be little shits too. Nothing like wandering down a trail and hearing high pitched laughter followed by a rain of pine cones. |

Mountain lions, being apex predators, will avoid attacking anything that puts them at risk of injury unless cornered. I weigh in between 210-230 depending on my current decision making, so I'm pretty well covered. I have heard of attacks, but they're generally in the more developed areas where they're in greater contact with people, and in truth, half of those have proven to be hoaxes... one guy shot himself in the foot and in his embarrassment, blamed a cougar. He was debunked and derided pretty quickly. The one major issue we have with them locally is livestock, but even that's a rarity as wild prey is also plentiful here. I'm not a fan of the bee family. Bumblebees I leave alone. Yellow jackets, wasps, Hornets etc. I go out of my way to murder. It all started when I was about 10 or 11. Got fucked up, walking past a hive I didnt even know was there. Bastards stung me over a dozen times. It's been war with them ever since.

In this state, the freaking ticks are what I hate. They are repulsive enough and then you gotta worry about if they are deer ticks carrying lyme disease.
