Its a Sanyo VPC-T700. Here is a link to it:
SANYO :: Digital Cameras :: VPC-T700 7-Megapixel Digital Camera I cannot figure out how to take good, up close pics with this camera. No matter how I have the flash set, the object looks extremely bright and you can't see what it is very well. If I just turn the flash off and use natural light (indoors), the images come out a little blurry and there is always an orange background to it. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Hi. It's best not to use the camera flash. Instead, it's better to use a small lighting setup where you have a couple of floor-standing, or desk-standing, lamps (the sort people have in their living room or bedroom), with a couple of 5000k - 5500k temperature daylight bulbs (of the correct wattage the lamp can handle) screwed into them.
To avoid the harsh light from using your flash, it's best to soften the light from these lamps using a softbox. Have a look on the following website for some ideas on how to make a softbox, which would be placed over the lamp hood: DIYPhotography.net | Photography and Studio Lighting I used a tutorial from this link: Studio DIY - softboxing the world - a home grown softbox | DIYPhotography.net for instructions on how to make a soft box out of a cardboard box, some foil and a piece of thin, white cotton (in my case, an old curtain net, but an old white shirt or something works as well). I'm currently testing this setup and using the camera on my mobile phone (with flash turned off) to take the photos. Notice on my photos that one lamp has no softbox and the light is more harsh. The light coming from the other lamp, with the softbox, is much softer, and was used to illuminate Destro and the Iron Grenadiers in the little fort I'm building. I'm completely new at this, so I'm learning as I go! Hope this helps. Seyms Last edited by seyms; 05-05-2010 at 11:52 AM.. |

Well, I'm more so looking for advice on this camera. When the flash is off, the shutter stays open for a few seconds and the pic ends up looking blurry. I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to turn the flash off and it still just take a regular pic. And I can't find anything in the manual for it.

Try setting the ISO to the highest setting when inside and you don't want the flash. Sounds like it's a light issue, the shutter is taking longer to close because of the lack of light. High ISO settings are usually good for long distant indoor pictures (like when you take a picture inside a big room with the flash on and all you get is a big black nothing) but it might work for you here, but may make the picture a little grainy. Worth a try. (This is all based off of my owners manual for a similar style camera) |

Thanks for the tip. After messing with it for a while, I think I figured it out. At least the pics look better than they did before.

Yeah, it has the flower and the mountain icon. I know about those and all. It's just when inside, with the flash off, the shutter had to stay open longer to get enough light for the picture. And my hands aren't super steady. So, it always came out blurry. After messing with all the settings and taking about 50 test shots, I think I managed to make it work out.
I went from taking pics like this: To taking pics like this: I'd say its quite an improvement. I do plan on using a background from now on too, that was a good tip. Thanks to all who helped out, much appreciated. |
