I'm with CC and Jinx on this one. I thought those tests sounded cool, but I don't need anyone keeping a genetic make-up file on me. Not the government, and some some corporation either. If anything, they should be paying *US* to take the test, not the other way around.
Besides, if someone experimented with cloning, it would be my luck the sample I sent in would be selected. I dont need to run herd on two of me, I do enough dumb stuff for ten people and I dont need double trouble.

....and I thought I was paranoid. Ya'll are acting your something special. All these corporations, the gov..pretty sure they have all the info they need. They probably have millions, of folks on a data base. I'm really doubtful they will do anything to you. Your trying to hide from what probably already know.

A good friend of mine did it, his last name is THORSON- Norwegian, he can trace his roots back to Norway from NY for many generations. Yet the test came back as all Irish, not Celtic, but Irish. Is this because of viking raids on Ireland back in the dark ages? Are these sites aware of this? Are they mislabeling Norwegian DNA found mixed in some Irish blood as "Irish" DNA as opposed to the indigenous Celtic peoples? I have a lot of questions about how they assign an ethnicity to that DNA. What might be considered one ethnicity during one era in history can be very different in another era. Look at England. Celtic to Roman to Saxon, then Norman. It's way to ambiguous to me. And yeah, they should pay us for donating this info.

In all seriousness, with all of the dna that "they" have didn't help Johnny Law to catch the Garden State Killer. The authorities had his DNA from crime old scenes but none of his medical info ever rang a bell. The day his brother submitted his dna for and ancestry test, boom. They came knocking at his brother's door. There is no Hippocratic oath with Ancesry.org.

For what it's worth, modern DNA tests are NOT an accurate reflection of your ancestors' birth locations. They only reflect how well you compare with modern people in the database who list their heritage is known to be one thing or another. As the DNA database expands, your results will change. Some areas of the world are better represented than others. The results for people in my family have already changed significantly several times. So if you do it, take it with a grain of salt and watch it over time for best results.

The DNA testing companies can get away with this, because it is for entertainment purposes only. Similar to psychic readings, or P.T. Barnum's American Museum exhibits. If you really want some fun DNA results, just read the many articles published by journalists who have duped the commercial industry by swabbing their dogs mouth, and sending it in for analysis. It's hilarious what a scam this is...

The good old U S of A all about making money. When we’re dropping like flies when covid 20 hits and the government doesn’t have enough people to tax they’ll initiate Operation: Synthoid Conspiracy. “Clone everyone that’s passed away in the last year and tax the s#!t out of them.”

I wasn't going to say anything at first glance when reading this thread, because that would be about as mean as telling someone's child about Santa Claus.

Got my results back. Got a couple surprises. I'm mostly German and French. 41%. Then British, and Irish 34%. Then 16% Western European.
It explained that with the Iceage back in the day, something about not being able to determine who actually lived there before the Iceage. I skimmed through it, that's what I got out of it. *shrug* Now the surprises. 3% Scandinavian. Two % Spanish/Portugese, and 2% Italian. That was interesting to read. So, yeah. Soon they will send me info on what regions, ancestors came from. I know the German part is Bavaria. Gunna have to do some research that place. I've heard of it, that's as far as my knowledge goes. |
