wanted to start a talk back thread about everyones fav comicbook characters and why? let me start
1. Superman Supes was always my fav hero. Whenever supes is done well its amazing. Its unfortunate that so much of the time writers struggle to make a meaningful story with possibly the most well known comic character of all time. Geoff Johns is doing a pretty good job now. But when done well its the best. I loved the Fleisher toons, loved superfriends, loved the donner films, Super boy tv show, smallville, the animated tv show, Superman doomsday, justice league and hes always great when done well in the comics...kingdom come, red son. The death of superman was one of the best stories ever. Despite the character struggling at times no hero installs excitement like a truely good superman. One of the best group of villains helps too. From luthor to bizarro. From Metallo to Darkseid. From lobo to doomsday to mytzptlyk to mongul and the list goes on and on. The villains make the character that much better. Is it to much to ask for a supes movie with a villain other than lex. So we can actually see him brawl with someone? 2. Green lantern GL was always one of my favs. I used to wear a green zorro mask and white gloves with a green ring out of a quarter machine and pretend to be hal when I was a kid. Again superfriends kinda stareted my love for the character. I've been made fun of at times for being a huge lantern fan.(Guy Gardner era or uhg dare I bring it up Mosaic) I've liked all the lanterns. Kyle Rayner, guy gardner, kilowog, Sadom Yat and even Stewart as a leaguer. I've been a fan through it all. However the time is now. With amazing comics by Geoff Johns (Sinestro corps, the war of light and Blackest night is starting off amazing)and a big film underway with Ryan Reynolds as Hal (thank goodness it wasn't Timberlake)theres never been a better time to be a GL fan. 3. The Flash Always loved the flash be it barry or wally. I love the rogues Capt cold, heatwave, mirrormaster, weather wizard, piper, trickster and zoom are all great. I loved barry as a kid and wally really turned out to be a great successor to the scarlette speedster mantel. Great stories great uses of the speed power have always made for great reading. Again great in superfriends loved the live action show and the smallville episode and loved the character on Justice league/unlimited. Favorite jlu episode is the flash and substance episode. I hope that I see a live action flash movie in the next ten years. Its been done so well on tv it would be great to see it on the big screen with great special fx. After the top three I just can't put these guys in order it seems to change daily.... swampthing The most underated underwritten characters in comics. Why can't this guy get any love these days. I still own the complete original run by wien and bernie wrightson. That is bar none some of the best art in comics to this day. I still have all the Alan Moore great issues. Love the original movie and show. I watched the toon when I was younger. I've followed the character through all comic incarnations(even the bad ones...vaughn)I wish more than anyone that swampthing would be brought back into dcu continuity. And I keep hoping for another film. Come on they've done V for Vendetta and Constantine so well and they've got a Jonah Hex and Losers on the way why can't they give the mossy lug another chance. I would like to see a return to the horror feel not the elemental aspect he's had for awhile now. Still love him. Batman How can he not be in my top 10 he's only the best consitstantly written character of all time. Dark Knight Returns is my favorite comic story of all time. But there are so many others...Year one, long halloween, dark victory, hush etc. And the cartoons I've loved them all. Superfriends, the new adventures of batman, the animated series, the batman, jlu, Mask of the phantasm, Gotham night etc. And batman, batman returns, batman begins and of course the Dark Knight are all fantastic Live action films. And arguably the best villains of any character. Yes batman has been done well time in and time out. A great character that has gotten the very best treatment. enough good to make anyone ignore the adam west years and even nipples on the batsuit. for every bad incarnation there are several good to make make up for it. Hulk Love the old cartoons and the ferigno show. Loved the cheesy 90s toon and the universal ride. I have the most toys of hulk over all other superheroes. I Love the big green guy. like superman a character that powerful seems hard to write at times. But when done well(planet hulk, future imperfect, hulk the end, world war hulk, the whole peter david run etc.) its awesome. I'm happy that I was finally given a good hulk movie last year, thought for sure the ang lee film ruined it filmwise for at least a decade. And the animated hulk vs was awesome. Something about the character always resonates with me. He can be boring or one dementional at times but a good ol' hulk smash and a huge brawl tearing up the city is always fun to read or watch. Green Arrow I grew up doing archery as a hobby so I've always loved archer characters(garrow, hawkeye, legolas etc) And I've always loved Ollie. He's a Left wing more down to earth batman. He's a badass with that bow and he's always been a big part of Hal Jordan's( my #2 all time superhero)life. Loved the green lantern and green arrow comics. hes great on jlu and smallville. i would love to see him made into a smallville spinoff. Even though I hate Kevin Smith Quiver was a phenominal story. Ollie would die for his beliefs and to help those who need him. He would go to bat for Hal against superman himself despite not having powers. If The justice league needs him hes there no matter what. I really respect the character. Iron fist I've loved iron fist for years its great to see him in an ongoing good series now after short runs like heroes for hire and the udon series. Wish they would have made the film that was rumored with Ray Park. That would have been sweeeeet. Love the character and the mythology. Iron man Despite generally poor writing on his comic books I still always like the character. He always seemed tpo be written better in avengers and big marvel events than on his own. love the armors loved the cartoons loved the character. Then I got everything I could have wanted with the perfect cast and the perfect iron man movie last year....Yes!!! Iron man hulk and Iron fist are really the only marvel characters to crack my top 10 list. And to round out my top ten well....I can't its a clump of characters Hellboy (love the character, comics, movies, cartoons, toys everything) The crow (love the story, the mythology the original comics and of course the movie) Martian Manhunter (Have a soft spot for the martian. Was very sad when he died. Oreo on the coffin choked me up a bit.) The darkness (love these books. Great concept well written character) Shazam (always loved him Kingdom come was great) aquaman (when will he be written well one of my favs as a kid) moon knight (great b character. Really great when written well) Captain Atom (love the character. done very well on jlu. eagery following his mini in action comics) Booster Gold (great funny charcter. Really grown on me...alot. great reboot of the character by johns) Gambit (Always my fav xman. Followed all his series. Loved him in the x toon and in the wolverine flic) Deathstroke ( great villain. loved him in teen titans, his solo series and in various dc events) Hawkman (a classic fav. Never really written well on his own but i've always loved the character. Can't believe he's gone) Cable (love cable I have followed all his comics ever) the atom (great character 100x cooler than antman.) elongated man (always my fav of the stretchers. Always written cool) deathlok( all versions were good) sleepwalker (another fav b character..heck might be a c character really) Well theres my list. I would love to see everyones and their reasons. Should be fun to read. Last edited by ROBULUS; 07-21-2009 at 12:40 PM.. |

Green Lantern(Hal Jordan) and Flash are my two favorites from DC(I also have a special place in my heart for Supes and Batman). Green Lantern's powers are just pure creativity, and I love to imagine all of the uses I would have for the ring, not just for fighting evil, but for everyday, mundane tasks.
For Marvel, my favorites are Hulk, Captain America, and many X-Men (Nightcrawler, Colossus, Iceman, Cyclops, Archangel, Beast, and of course, Wolverine). I like Hulk because he is a classic example of the tragic hero, brilliant, but haunted by the monster within his body and mind. Cap is just an all American hero with great values, but he is also an awesome fighter with one of the most original weapons in comics, yet he doesn't kill. The X characters are appealing because of their personalities and how they interact with eachother. Last edited by TU482; 07-21-2009 at 03:21 AM.. |

Magneto: But only Jim Lee's version and NOT the movie version. I liked that Magneto was so awesome that even Rogue wanted to be with him.
Archangel: I love Jim Lee's purple and pink Archangel with the jagged lines going all over him. I always thought he just looked so cool. Psylocke: I love this woman. Period. LOL. |

My all time favourite was Nightwing...man I hope he goes back to the name in a year's time when Bruce inevitably comes back. He may have been second best at everything after Batman but he wasn't as moody or dark.
After that, Green Arrow, Aquaman, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Warlord, Captain Atom and Hawkeye. |

Other characters I love are (in no particular order) Blue Beetle, Plastic Man, Venom, Animal Man, Deathstroke, Cable, Nightwing, Martian Manhunter, Metamorpho, Daredevil, Deadpool, Spiderman, Ant-man, Spawn, Hellboy, Wonder Woman, most of the characters from Watchmen, the Atom, Captain Marvel, Silver Surfer, Thor, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, Hawkman, Aquaman, Punisher, Hawkeye, and, well I guess that's enough.
I own around 3,500 comics last time I counted, so I could name many more, but I don't think very many 'tankers here care about superheroes. |

spider-man is my absolute favorite; he's always seemed to be the most relatable to me. i also can appreciate his values and sense of humor.
daredevil is next on my list because i can relate to all of the catholic guilt he suffers. dick grayson ranks third; i've always enjoyed watching his evolution from teen sidekick to team leader and now stepping into the batman legacy. |
