We lived in base housing and move a lot so there wasn’t a ton of attachment to the house but we were getting used to staying in the same place for longer than a couple years. We’re sad that our neighborhood was destroyed and we may never run into our neighbors again but 99% of the houses are a loss.
I’ve been able to salvage a few things but all the large furniture is ruined from water and moisture, growing mildew everywhere. We were able to keep our keepsakes and some clothes, kitchen accessories, and pictures. For now we have to live in hotels but might get a FEMA trailer when there’re ready. It seriously looks like a horror movie or war zone. It’s surreal and no words can describe the amount of destruction.

What’s up joe bros?
I’ve got good news and bad news. The joes made it! The house, not so much. It’s kind of funny, my joes were still standing, not a one fell over. I salvaged what I could today and I’m going to try for more tomorrow. Might be a while before I can get back into painting but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Great news about the Joes!!! It's a message sent by god himself! He loves your customs!!!

Haha! Nice. Apparently he doesn’t like my trampoline though, he really took it out on it.

You have my deepest sympathies and prayers as you and your family are going through this devastating ordeal. I remember not only when Harvey hit here last year but also with many other storms that we had throughout the years like Ike and tropical storm Allison. These storms do get quite devastating at times and it winds up displacing us for awhile. In the past we were lucky to have lived in certain sections in our area that were not prone to flooding. But having all that devastation going on around us really puts things into perspective. As much as I hate hearing you guys going through what you're going through I'm happy to know that you are all alive and well. I just know that you and your family will rise up from this ordeal and you guys will come out on top. Thank you for thinking of us and keeping us updated on your situation because I tell you the truth, we really do care about you and what you're going through. So don't ever think that we don't want to know, because we do want to know how you and your family are doing.
Thanks brother, that really means a lot. I have to admit I thought seeing the place would help but it only made the situation more real. It started to sink in that I don’t have a place for my family. Not sure what the upcoming months have in store for us but I’m glad to have stumbled into this thread one night and gotten to know you all.

KR sorry about your house brother. Anything at all that you may need, be sure to let us know. Everything happens for a reason even though it sucks sometimes. Your family is safe, your Joes are ok, and you have some really good friends here that care a lot about you.

Glad you got the most important things - life, family, keepsakes, and your Joes! Will the Air Force relocate personnel to other bases if that one is going to be out of commission for a while? Hopefully you'll land somewhere decent. |

Or SoCal! Earthquakes typically pose little harm, and unless you live in the mountains, wildfires shouldn't be a concern. Most cities aren't a flood hazard, if for no other reason than we get so little rain...just be aware the rent is a mother-fragger. But once you're in, there are SO many places to visit and appreciate.
Texas was cool and inexpensive, but man--it was hot like a mutha for much of the year; it would rain at the drop of a hat; snow every winter; random hordes of bugs, just, everywhere, all the time. BIG bugs. Folks are generally nice, but many are evangelical. Good food. Lax gun laws.
