Exactly Slice! I can not stand bullies, racism, people who think they are better than others, and the Dutch.
Haha joking about the Dutch.

As a wise man once said, because they're grown doesn't mean they're adults

...... I was reading some Plato recently and two things struck me: 1). his "World of Ideas" and how nothing we see/experience is quite accurate because we perceive it through our senses and filter it through our brains. Two people may have different ideas of the color blue, for example, and thus see "blue" differently. This is very true and crazy to think about. I think a part of what's wrong with this country, is that a lot of people have never spent much (or any?) time outside of their little secluded country town. As such, they have never had their world view challenged/expanded. So they view everyone different than themselves as the enemy. It sounds hard to believe, with so many of us traveling so often, but I meet people all the time who have never even left their state, or even their county before. It's nuts to me.

It sounds hard to believe, with so many of us traveling so often, but I meet people all the time who have never even left their state, or even their county before. It's nuts to me. I have a friend that I’ve known since grade school that is a towny and always will be a towny. He’s an amazing guy, will give you the shirt off his back and drop whatever he’s doing to help someone else, but he is not interested in the what’s outside his small town. We grew up in a town of around 700 people. After high school I left for Minneapolis and he stayed there. He is a volunteer EMT and firefighter and loves it. The first ten years I lived in Minneapolis I sent him job offer and job offer for full time firefighter and EMT work and he had no interest. He stayed in the small town and is now a functioning alcoholic who works for the county doing plowing and road work. I get that not everyone wants to live in the city, but doing the same thing day in and day out (get up, go to work, get off work, go to the local small town bar, get drunk, go to bed, get up and do it all over again) is beyond my comprehension of a fulfilling life. We have drifted apart over the years because our lives are on two different trajectories. It makes me sad that I am losing (or have lost) a dear friend, but getting drunk on the daily and quoting late 90’s movies is not something I am interested in. Get out and travel while you can! Meet new people! Open your mind to thoughts and beliefs you haven’t experienced. |

I’m sure this will sound hokey, but it’s been fun to interact with you over the last two years Yeet. You went from making ‘jokes’ about killing me to a very free thinking and mature adult. Cheers. |

Yep, and if your biggest takeaway from that is you have to pay more for kid's toys, you have a problem. I swear, Americans are so short-sighted, they'll gladly trade a better future for their children for cheap goods right now. Like those assholes who complain about the "shitty schools and roads", but then vote down tax increases that will benefit both of those things while they run out and buy season sports tickets or boats or ATVs or some such other inconsequential shit.
lol That's so ridiculous! Mistakes happen, but keep track of your shit, USPS! I don't even believe half of what I see nowadays. I was reading some Plato recently and two things struck me: 1). his "World of Ideas" and how nothing we see/experience is quite accurate because we perceive it through our senses and filter it through our brains. Two people may have different ideas of the color blue, for example, and thus see "blue" differently. 2). In the Republic he talks about leadership and leaders and, among other things, how personal tragedy breeds an empathy necessary to good leadership. It's something that can't be bought or taught. The parallels between that notion, FDR and Biden wasn't lost on me. People who typically complain about tax hikes aren’t the ones who will end up paying more; they are just towing the political narrative. Chances are a majority of the people complaining about ‘socialism’ (which in itself is hysterical as the socialism they think is happening isn’t actually what is actually happening) are actually benefiting from programs they aren’t even aware that they are benefiting from; thus becoming the ‘welfare queens’ they are so scared of. |
