I'm probably going to get blasted for saying this but I guess you could say I scalp. I think it is fun. If I see a rare figure I get it even if I don't collect the line. I can use it as trade bait or make an extra buck. Its a toy its not the cure for cancer being sold on the black market. I used the money to buy other toys I want or just put it in the family account. If I got my hands on the Bludd figure I might have tossed it on eBay as well because I don't do the classified line.

I personally have no problem paying over retail for figures, but I thought this was a very interesting and insightful video on the whole aspect of reselling/scalping (specifically in the shoe game). I also really like how he’s very calm about the topic instead of the usual fanboy raging over not being able to get their item for retail
*for context: the shoe he’s talking about retailed for $170 but got “Cobra Islanded” by scalper bots and the CHEAPEST listing for a pair is $2500 Interesting. I don't know how many will take his advice though. So, uh, where do they sell these "UA's" ? (I'm ignorant to the shoe game) Quote:

You an I are probably on the same page here man. Quote:
I think intentional reselling is silly, but that's just because I easily have dozens of things I'd rather be doing than toy shopping--matter of fact, I fucking hate toy shopping--and toy selling. I also hate dealing with ebay. Now, make no mistake, most toy-collectors scalp. That said, there's a huge difference between the average toy nerd who may buy an extra something purely to scalp if opportunity presents itself, and the real rotten fucker scalpers who spend their lives, literally, finding toys at retail for the express purposes of reselling. These turds buy up all they can find, create artificial shortages and then demand stupid fucking amounts due to the, again, ARTIFICIAL SHORTAGE they themselves created. Seriously. They're the same twats who scalped T.P., Clorox and hand sanitizer. They're not toy collectors. They're just despicable shit-heads, plain and simple. Honestly, as much as I've grown to despise the bulk of toy collectors out there, I really oughta be a scalper. I oughta be taking advantage of these creepers and their compulsions/ addictions. I oughta be fleecing the rubes something fierce! But, as I said, I have better things to do.
You can always tell a real scalper--the ones causing the real problem for toy collectors and kids (remember them?)--by their auction listings. They usually type out stupid shit like, "HTF!!! RARE!!!" They also tend to use BIN with insanely jacked up prices, have multiples of an item and the language skills of a 5 year old. My advice: quit buying from these fucks. Good job differentiating between the sometimes re-sellers and the full time Scalpers. There seems to be a huge rise in full-time-scalpers since the pandemic. It's almost like the TP and sanitizer shortages encouraged people to make a career out of it. And yeah, they operate like locusts, devouring everything in their paths. They don't care if it's toys, shoes, or daily essentials. And yeah, their listings stand out like a sore thumb too, just as you said. Casual/Normal shoppers don't stand a chance, cause we have day jobs. They can hit 30 stores before I even clock out for the day.

I was thinking about doing a plant day this weekend. Wonder if Lowe's has any sales.

The UAs look, feel, and even smell exactly like the retail pairs, and people have even caught folks selling UA’s on eBay and other marketplaces for the same inflated resale prices of the retail shoes. Even StockX has been fooled by UAs so pretty much if you didn’t get the shoe at footlocker or from Nike.com, your best bet is a UA Last edited by Yeet; 04-23-2021 at 12:09 PM.. |

Reddit is where most of the LEGIT UA shoe activity goes on. You don’t actually buy them on there, that’s just where all the links to the legit/non-scan stuff and the discussion about them goes on. Theres plenty of Chinese fake sneakers floating around claiming to be UA’s, so you gotta be really careful. The difference between a UA and a fake is the UA’s are made with the exact same materials, cuts, and molds and are 99% the same as the retail shoes, whereas fakes are obviously fakes (cheapy materials, “Nimke Air Lordan”, etc.). The exactness of the UA’s makes some speculate that they are made by Nike or at least Nike employees as a side hustle, either by just the workers making a quick buck or by Nike trying to capture both markets. The production of UA’s is pretty under wrap, but they’re better than feeding the 15 year old nerds who’ve been scalping the retail pairs. Funny thing is one of the major scalpers was found to be the son of a Nike VP, he was caught after using his mom’s credit card to buy $150k worth of one single shoe using bots to buy them.
