I suppose the AWOK 6' line probably means the end of the 4" line. I don't know, this coupled with the Sectaurs failure and the "go fuck yourself" attitude from the Zica dude about it, coupled with the 4" Spero line being so delayed, Threewayed with the Dime Store Legends delays, Fourwayed with the Eagle Force "we have had the shit in a warehouse for 2 weeks, but waited two weeks to start on it now there are more delays because parts are missing and oh by the way, you waited 5 years but still go fuck yourself because we are not in any hurry to get these out but hey support our next kick", fivewayed with the Space Force kick that has delays........this isn't even mentioning the Hellscreamerz debacle (until now ha). Ok so I get it. Covid...Chinese New Year...but a lot of folk are out a lot of money in pledge costs and the delays suck for both sides. BUT...the lack of urgency on these kickstarter people (ala the go fuck yourself we will take our damn sweet time even though these were promised years ago)....it really sours me on supporting any others. These are all very cool figures. I for one can't afford to pay upfront for something that will come in years after the promised date. I know strides have been made, such as with Eagle Force with tooling and a new factory and a boot on the ground project manager. Still though, is it too many? Is it poor Covid timing? People always say "well its at Christmas time so bad timing" or "well it's summer vacation time so bad timing" or "It's back to school time so poor timing" or "It's tax time but I have to buy a new freezer or car so bad timing". I mean what's a good time, what's a realistic goal and or price? How can Eagle Force show pics of product sitting in a warehouse and then say "we will get to it when we get to it"? Ok, so I get that too, people have lives outside of action figures. BUT...in the case of Eagle Force these I believe were promised Jan 2018. They have a new kick they want to promote. Bad business to not be busting hump to get these out. A lot of folk say "well we waited 5 years what's another two weeks"? I guess but still. Thoughts?

We have the Zica Toys military vehicle started last week (we briefly chatted up about this one) and the new Spero Toys Animal Warriors of the Kingdom 6' line.

In The toy game, there is serious money to be made , so all These kickstarters isn’t uncommon. But for the most part doesn’t seem like the masses are really receiving it well. On top of the consumers having tight funds. Granted I know if someone loves something enough they will find the funds to invest in it, Bad timing of launching a product or not. But IMHO, although some cool, some not so cool, some invested , some struggling, most of the kickstarts are forgettable products .

Oh I agree bro. I have a soft spot for Eagle Force I guess. I never had the vintage toys, but damn if I didn't spend a lot of money and time on the property. The books, trading cards, kickstarter, card game..I was all in on Fresh Monkey because their "universe" was exactly what interests me. I feel like I have a higher tolerance regarding EF but at this point my excitement has gone down so much. There was a time I was ready to pretty much get rid of everything else toy wise (except Joes) to focus on the FMF universe of figures and stories. When the changes/delays etc hit I got back into Star Wars and Marvel in addition to Joes and now I kinda don't have the room/money/passion that I had for EF before.

But I really needed that freezer Itch!
But seriously for me, the kick starters just haven't really appealed to me. I've said this many times here that I am strictly straight up, one toyline, GI Joe, and if I get involved with any outside action figure makers it's strictly for the parts so I can make the Joes and Cobras that I feel that Hasbro will probably never come around to making. When I purchase from Marauders, for the parts. Boss Fight, for the parts. When I go to the stores and I purchase Star Wars figures, for the parts. If Eagle Force makes parts or heads I can use, I'd only purchase for the parts. Same with Joy Toy and the others. I've also never really felt confident in forking over large sums of money to either get what I paid for years down the line or never at all. |

If we have a percentage scale of 100, and let’s say 10% of that are collectors. Most collectors want the originals . If A kickstart comes out with a modern day product of said love, it better be 100% or that collector won’t invest. Now for the other 90%. 80% of these guys have a champagne taste with beer budget. Wanting a grand ole scale for $14. These are the consumers who make up the masses and destroy brands and revamps. The remaining 20% are at the biggest disadvantage because they want to see their love, let’s use Eagle Force for example succeed, but the price point is so high for most kickstarts and relaunches it’s the beginning of the end as soon as it’s showed, thanks to the 80%ers. My opinion.

Here’s my two Venezuelan cents on the whole Kickstarter thing:
I personally find Kickstarters where it’s something that they are making because they would buy it are usually really good. This includes stuff like the MARV, Marauders, HACKS, Mythic Legions, and Bobby’s Action Force. The creators put lots of effort into these projects because it’s something they really want. I personally DON’T like stuff that seem like cash grabs, which are usually old properties that are really generic. These figures usually look like they have almost no thought put into them, they usually take forever to make, and the end result is usually sub par. I’m not trying to read into anyone’s motives with these, but all the stuff like the Phantom or Remo Williams or generic 3.75” figure #37 just don’t seem like they really care |
