do your classes run like a normal school day? My elementary kids are basically done by 1:30, and at this point, are really being assigned a lot of additional work (it's only the first week for us). But they basically have a morning session for maybe 2 hours, and afternoon session, and the rest is basically independent work time.
My mom, who's a retired teacher, said they ultimately get the same amount of instruction because a lot of in-person school is disciplinary, or working at the slower kids' pace. Not sure how accurate that is, but she said it. It’s getting better, but lots of planning time as Rea1180 said. New lessons online, converting info/links to Google Slides (think PowerPoint), etc. After our mini lessons (15-20 mins), I am giving them time to work. They “stop video” (screen goes dark, and encourage them to work away from the screen. I stay, making myself available for questions/help, before pulling them back together for a debrief/reflection/wrap up of that lesson). Eventually figuring out small groups to pull for support during that stop video work time. Quote:
I'm doing my student teaching now and with distance learning classes have been cut at the high school level from 6 down to 3. They now have quarters instead of semesters to fit everything in. There is a lot of planning time in my day, because the biggest problem as a teacher here right now is creating all new lessons plans everyday because most of the old in class stuff doesn't transfer well to distance learning. Also ti have to check your emails a lot because not all kid are attending virtual class time, because nobody is home to keep then on track or they are taking care of your siblings. So with students working off hours they may still need help.

I’ll eventually grab a marauder mic. I’ll pay $15 all day for a HM sans mic before I pay hundreds for one WITH.

Yeah—Chris Neal’s (Toy Dept.) booth is easily the best for oring prices. Spent $500 on that lot (got a few figures thrown in for free). Lots of modern and vintage Joes!
