On a serious note—I’m asking for prayers for my Mom who has just tested positive for COVID. Prayers for my Dad as well, as he will be tested now, too. They both have weak immune systems; my Mom battles with MS, and my Dad with heart issues and is a liver transplant survivor. 69 and 71 years old, respectively. They live in North Carolina...
She was terribly lethargic on SAT, but since then, dealing mainly with a cough (not too bad). But we all know how this virus can flip on a dime...or simply fade away, no worries. Okay, back to the shenanigans! ❤️ |

I've always said "Hope for the best, plan for the worst, and life usually meets you somewhere inbetween". This thread is, atm, where people are expressing those hopes and doesn't mean they're not also planning otherwise.

So...I believe you when you say that you don’t mean to be negative. Buuut...you are being so in a none-to-socially-sensitive way, nonetheless.
You see, no one needs a dose of reality. Everyone on the planet is quite aware of the possibility of COVID’s potential...and for that matter, life’s ultimate ending; no one gets out of here alive... For those who believe, prayer is not wishful thinking, cute little phrases to make people feel good or pretend everything is alright. And you’re kind of right in that not everything goes well in “prayerland”...from the human point of view, anyway. Anything God let’s happen might be deemed an unanswered prayer. To me, it’s not that; it’s an answer of “not now” or possibly a “no.” If the worst happens, then God’s still got me, and His ways are greater than my ways. I accept that. The Bible is full of stories where things didn’t go as people wanted them to (Jonah’s whale, Paul’s thorn in the flesh, David and Jonathan, Moses and the Promise Land, Peter and his denial...on and on), and yet God’s plans were perfectly carried out anyway. The greater story here is that God is the Alpha and the Omega—He started creation and He has a way forward through this fallen world with the promise of everlasting life for those who accept Christ’s sacrifice for their sins. It requires God-given faith, though. That was a bit preachy; my apologies. But please don’t read any arrogant/snarky tone in this text. I just want you to know where my hope truly lies. Now, feel free to PM me if you want to discuss belief systems/science/faith/etc., as I’d be happy to discuss those further with you. After all, if I believe it to be true, no sense keeping the good news under a rock. ;) Quote:
Partial truth there bud. It's always healthy to remain balanced. Yes, too much positivity tends to set a person up for disappointment but it also depends on that person's mindset. Realistically, bad things do happen. Yes, people suffer. Yes, people get sick. Yes, people die. That's life doing what life does best, it gives us the bad and it gives us the good. Too much negativity, which is where you lean, is also not healthy. That's why I said you have to be balanced. If you want you can read my message to oz again. Prayer doesn't guarantee that you are going to see the results you want. Prayer is you communicating with God, nothing wrong with that. Just like you calling up your best buddy or your parent or whoever you trust in your life. It doesn't mean we demand that we're given what we want. Because ultimately, again, life is going to do what life does best, give us the bad and the good. But if someone wants some prayers or well wishes or positive vibes then that's what they want. Don't knock them for it.
And yes, you are right, things don't ALWAYS end up great in prayer land. But things have ended up great in prayer land. I've witnessed great things happening with prayer. But like I told ozzie earlier, it doesn't guarantee that we get what we want. That's not what prayer is. Prayer is just communication. Prayer is just you chatting with God. Do I make requests to God? Yes, but it doesn't mean I'm going to get what I want. Have I gotten what I've prayed for? Yes at times I have. And there are many times I haven't received what I've asked for. But do I give up on God? Hell no! Well said sir. Couldn’t have said it any better myself.

I feel like your all setting yourselves up for disappointment by all this positive behavior.
I'm really not trying to be negative. It's always a bad thing to expect the best. This is life, she likes to keep you on your toes. Someone has to be pessimistic, but maybe preparing for the worst thing, saves you additional stress if things do end up..ya know dead. Things dont always end up great in prayer land. When it's your time, it's your time. Approach it any way that makes you feel better. - Devil's Advocate
