Hisstank Late Night thread...

In reading about WW2, I frequently encounter instances of glider-borne troops. These were rather large canvas-frame aircraft that could carry more than a dozen troops, depending on the model. And yet, knowing this, every time I see mention of “glider-borne soldiers” I immediately imagine Cobra Troopers in their little one-man gliders shooting blue lasers at stuff.

I love history, especially that time period. Some of British gliders could hold tanks or 40+ personnel plus the pilot. They were used on D-Day with bad results because at the last minute the American soldiers had to use British gliders and the British had to use American gliders. They were diferent sizes and had different handling characteristics, The GI's didnt want to use they British gliders because the landing gear had an awful tendency to rip loose and tear through the floor and whatever else was in the glider when it landed.

D Day also had a bad storm that blew the allied forces off course on almost every group. Hang gliders most have been awful that day. I was able to walk the D Day beaches some years ago and it was eerily still that day, then weather came in and it was tough to even walk on the bluffs where German batteries still are in place.

I’m really weird because when I think of combat hang gliders, I think of Cobra soldiers.......

But I also think of Ewoks.

I was mad as a yoot because I never had Gung-Ho or Alpine and I wanted them bad.
