Ha! we're like the only Rocketeer fans here...Dave Stevens ROCKED, and Joe Johnston made a Great Adaptation with what Disney gave him, loved the films Rocketpack too. His Medicom figure Ver.2 is quite a nice piece too.

I remember around the time the movie came out in the early 90's,I had this really cool Rocketeer figure. I dont remember where I got it from but I think it might have been a happymeal toy. I remember it being filled with gum or candy and it was made of really cheap plastic. For some reason I cherished that figure.

I think I remember that figure...It was mostly Helmet if I recall, and yeah, knowing Disneys contracts with McDonalds, I'm pretty sure it was a McDonald HappyMeal Premium.

I believe Topps came out with a line of Rocketeer candy dispensers. They had 3 versions. First was a Helmet. Second was a small troso. Third was a 4-5 inch figure that had moving arms. All three were filled with "chicklet" style gum. (I still have them). Pizza Hut had the fast food license. I remember you got a Rocketeer helmet style cup with "fin" top and a personal pan pizza and an activity sheet that you would fold up to make a Rocketeer glider/paper airplane. (I still have them also). I've always loved The Rocketeer. The one thing I remember when I was young was being bummed out that there was not enough merchandise when the film came out. I remember they had the Topps Candy Dispensers, the Topps Trading Cards, and an Applause bendable Rocketeer figure with removable Rocket pack. I remember reading an article once that Disney had a whole slew of merchandising all lined up, but due to the fact that the film didn't meet their expectations they cancelled a majority of the licences. I remember an ad in Disney Adventure Magazine for water propelled Rocketeer and Gee Bee models. Those were toys that got the ax, never to see the light of day. Over the years, I was able to stumble on more Rocketeer merch. It broke my heart last year at Comic-Con when Jesse Falcon showed designs for a Rocketeer Marvel Legends Style figure that was supposed to be in the Legendary Comic Book Heroes line but it was cancelled because the figure line got scrapped. These days it seems Disney is kind of warming up to Rocketeer fans by licensing out various busts and statues. Sideshow had a bust for sale a while back and they have a vinyl figure and just recently a beautiful statue has just gone up for sale. Of course we can't forget Medicom's RAH figure. These are all great, but I always wanted a Rocketeer action figure to mix in with the JOES. Maybe one day.... |

The Rocketeer was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I remember it fondly. It had that great summer adventure feel to it. My interest in the movie had me seek out some of the comics as well. What a great character!
I had some of the trading cards but my favorite was the official movie magazine which was loaded with Rocketeer goodness. I would've loved that Legendary Super Heroes figures. What a shame! This is a great idea to start a group respecting one of the most underrated characters ever! |

I loved the movie, and loved the graphic novel. The character is such a favorite that splurged and bought the Medicom V2 of him complete with the gum stuck to his jet pack. He's currently posing in my Star Wars room next to Batman, Symbiote Spider-man and the few other Medicoms I have.

I believe they had a mock up of that concept rocket pack. Although the comic style pack would have been closer to the books, I see why the film makers went with the twin engine pack, a little more realistic. Oh, bit of trivia....remember the Nazi film that Howard Hughes shows Cliff & Peevy?(Not the animation, but the one right before, the one with the Nazi's test rocket) Well, one of the Nazi officers in that film is Dave Stevens. You have to look real quick but he's in there. Last edited by coolhandmelo; 06-30-2009 at 05:55 PM.. Reason: more info |

Some of the old Applause stuff:
ROCKETEER gee bee zeppelin Pegasus made an actual 1:18 Gee Bee "Z", that would go well with a custom Cliff Secord |
