Mine will forever be the Crimson Guard. Not only do I love how the figures display but I was always intrigued by the old Marvel comic storyline. I realize that they are pretty much a ceremonial outfit but they're also the breadwinners for the Cobra organization.

COBRA soldiers.
I remember as a child wanting more and more and they got discontinued after 1985. Yes, I army-built even then, had 5 Vipers, 2 BATs, 4 Crimson Guards, etc. Didn't have the budget for it that I do now, but I digress. I remember as a child wishing Hasbro sold them in gift sets and imagined myself having lots of HISS tanks and squads of COBRA soldiers to outfit them with. I wasn't a GIJOE collector 'til TRU got those COBRA Infantry sets and I went berserk on them, bought every one I saw except for one, I think. That's what got me on GIJOE. I also like the Death Star Trooper. As a child I had the Death Squad Commander/Star Destroyer Commander/Whatever, but it always bothered me that it was basically an Imperial Officer with a helmet and it the movies those guys wore all-black. So when Hasbro initially released the Death Star Trooper way back in POTF2 in the late 1990's, I'd planned to get fifty of them. Well, I don't know if there are any other long-term Star Whores collectors here, but if you remember this far back, the original POTF2 Death Star Trooper was very rare. I only found four at retail. This was due to the severe pegwarmer problem. The Fan Club eventually sold them as part of a set with Ree-Yees, the other new action figure from that wave, and I think I got at least a couple more but you couldn't buy them separate from Ree-Yees. Later this action figure was re-released as a Target exclusive "accesory set" and came with a big interrogation droid and Stormtrooper gear, and was $10. I bought several. The action figure always got a lot of criticism, though, because it's permanently posed like it's running. A couple of years ago when Hasbro made the new Death Star Trooper that was super-poseable, I bought maybe fifty of them. I just like the look of them, I guess. And always wanting them as a child, I sort of lost control. Damn, that was a longer response that I intended to write. |

The blueshirts.
They are the very embodiment of quantity over quality. Drown your opponents in AK-wielding cannon fodder. The Vipers were a step-up in quality, but for shear numbers you just can't beat the original. |
