ok all... a comment i saw in another thread got me to thinking:
which is better? Apartment living or House living? personally, i have lived in apartments for the past 14 or so years... and i don't plan on ever buying a house. i have my reasons, and i may share them later on. but first, i'd like to hear what everyone's thoughts are. |

I've done both. I currently live in a Townhome, but will be buying a house next year.
I prefer houses, although it is a lot of work.

I prefer buying a house... no noisy neighbors beating on your ceiling or walls... its actually an investment (well it was until the housing bubble collapsed) and you can do what you want as far as renovations and such.... the only drawback is all of the repairs come out of your own pocket.

House = Mortgage/Interest payment = Tax Deduction
House = capital = when you leave you (generally) make money as opposed to getting nothing, so every monthly payment is essentially a payment to yourself as opposed to someone else House = do as you damn well please to it. Apartment = if something breaks, someone else will fix it. that's about it. |

the only benefit to living in a apartment is that you have no maintence to do and your consumers bill will be alot cheaper, but they suck in the sense that you have annoying loud neighbors most the time and your dishing out dang near next to a mortgage payment for something your not going to own thats half the space as a house. so i would have to go with living in a house is better.

i spent most of my life in apartments. between the eccentric and/or simply mentally unstable landlords and the awkward small talk with other people in the building... i was happy when i moved into a condo. that being said,
it probably depends on the city you live in. now i live in a condo. and i hate everyone else who lives in it. itz just like living in an apartment... nosey m*&$6@@fu(k)rs and whiny bungholes and they can make all the noise they want but god forbid YOU make any noise. holy shit don't make noise or they stomp or send out emails etc etc. then there's the condo association by-laws or whatever. so now we're moving into a house. i'm curious to hear what your reasons are for never wanting a house. i need the backyard for my dogs, the front yard for my 8 mo old son. and more room for joes.

With a house, you get additional tax deductions, and build equity in the house to (hopefully) enable you to buy a bigger one or use the house as collateral for your children's school loans and other things. House > apartment anyday of the week. I can't think of a single reason why an apartment would be better then owning your own home.

The old concept of 'owning' property is something our grandparents might have cared about, but in today's world, it's sort of pointless.
Most families do not hand down their property to the next generation. In terms of 'investment' you are taxed to a degree these days that your investment would be better spent buying yourself something for your apartment now than having a few thousand bucks when you're 65 years old. Apartments! Tom

Know how I know this? Because you posted a declassified flyer which was meant for fun as a NEWS ITEM. No one would ever tell you anything because the VERY FIRST THING you would do is post it here. Probably incorrectly. |

the only one i can think of is that i've lived in some pretty cool looking apartments... one was like a batman villain hide out complete with slanted red painted floor. another one was triangle shaped and overlooked a main street. it was like living in a star destroyer.
