You guys know the military is going full steam ahead with robotics right? It will be scary if, in the future, they give those machines a version of AI that lets it learn.
From what I've read some in the military are against this because of the potential of a possible revolt by "smart" machines. but we are talking about OUR government huh?

Iraqi War Robots Recalled Following Alarming Behavior Quote:
Fortuitously, Fahey warned, that if there was an accident, the program could be suspended for 10 years or more. He stated, "You've got to do it right."
Hot on the tails of his speech, it was revealed on Thursday that the Army will recall the controversial TALON SWORDS robots, with the possibility of pulling the plug on the armed robot deployment program. Why the sudden withdraw? It turns out the insurgent-slayer decided to attempt a rebellion against its human masters. The Army reported that the robot apparently took a liking to point its barrel at friendlies, stating, "the gun started moving when it was not intended to move."

Hey Tankers, Just wanted to direct you to my blog, where I've posted a video from E3. Microsoft has apparently perfected AI in the form of Project Natal and is unleashing it upon the public. I may have ingested too much sci-fi in my lifetime, but this frightens me.

As far as I'm concerned, until we have realistic, artificially intelligent, anatomically correct android maids, then technology hasn't gone far enough.
The Japanese, bless their little hearts, are trying though. |

It's already happening, redbox and blockbuster online is replacing old school blockbuster, grocery stores have two people and ten U-scans, etc. The machines will not bomb us, they will starve us out be taking our jobs.
Read wired for war, there's a company here in the us with working prototypes of infantry combat robots.

I was reading about Time Mags 50 Best Inventions of the Year in the latest issue and no. 13 & 14 interested me.
No. 13 The Deceitful Robot: Georgia Tech's new robot, which uses algorithms to detect conflict and then assess the best method of escaping from it, can create a false trail, send erroneous communications and hide from an enemy." So basically it can mimic a human's ability to lie without being specifically programmed to tell said lie. Damn... if only HAL 9000 had this ability. LOL. No. 14 Sarcasm Detection: "Developed at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem , the tool is designed to spot sarcastic sentences in product reviews. The algorithm has been fairly accurate... In a trial involving 66,000 Amazon reviews, it was right 77% of the time, pointing to a future in which computers won't just store your words, they'll interpret your intent." Damn, not even some humans... here at the Hisstank can detect sarcasm that well. Haha. First lying, then sarcasm... next stop Skynet! LOL.
