So now since i live in the sticks i had to get a new internet provider. my att uverse cant work out here. we are too far from there towers. so the choice became comcast.
so here is the problem, i need to get a router cause comcast only gave me a modem. the modem from comcast is a rca by thomson, model # dhg536c. i am under there 12gig plan. my router i have is a att 2wire model 3600hgv. I also own an old tmobile router a d link TM-g5240 I need this to stream my ps3 for gaming and netflix for the kids. the att one worked great (i only had 6gig plan then), if the tmobile one or att one wont work (i heard the att will only work on the att network) please recommend one that will and i will go buy one. I dont mind dropping a "little" bit of money due to i need this to be powerful. I plan to hook a 2nd computer in the garage when i build my office out there and need it to stream with no problems...... my options out here to buy are a handfull of computer repair stores and walmart.

Here's some info I gave on another thread.
http://www.hisstank.com/forum/genera...ml#post2505535 A linksys or other type router may not be able to handle the packet loads once you get streaming and doing other things. The problem with them is once they get backed up it takes a while for them to reset, sometimes days. I am seriously a nightmare for any non commercial router and the one I put in the link does the job great. The only time I ever have issues is when I have way too many downloads going and those are screaming at 2MB/sec or more. I'm not the most tech savvy either and a friend of mine that is suggested that router for function and ease. You can also upgrade the firmware for free to give much more function to it. Hope that helps and if you need any info hit me up with a PM. |

That looks like a nice choice Blue. I like the fact that it has an alarm if you come close to your data cap. Boy, that would have saved me a call or two from my provider.

When it comes to routers it's always best to have more then you need, then less. The routers that most comm companies give you to use they buy in bulk and are cheap, and will usually struggle with uses like streaming video, and running on-line multiplayer at the same time. I'm a fan of Motorola's SURFboards myself, but the N300 is a nice piece of equipment and should be able to handle the amount of signal traffic you're using for quite some time. Depending on what your outlook on network security looks like, and where your closest neighbor is, you might want to take a walk with a laptop if you have one handy, and see how far you are spraying your signal. Good luck!
