Yeah, I always scratch my head about how zombie survivors have never heard of zombies... But as others have mentioned, a lot of it is just plot-driven stupidity. There are a lot of stories that could be resolved in five minutes if everyone was calm and rational. That's part of why I give up on shows like TWD, Under the Dome, and Lost... I rapidly lose patience with shows that require people to be dumbasses in order to maintain the premise.
FWIW, in a zombie apocalypse story the zombies are the setting, not the antagonists. If you look at it, the real problems are issues of survival and cooperation. TWD is a good example, because most of the actual drama comes from people fighting each other rather than the zombies. |

Yeah, there are so many holes in the whole premise. Take for instance the scene in Fear TWD where a zombie is locked in a stadium/wedding reception...etc. I can understand where one or two people might be bitten, but they want us to believe that no one in a large group would have the ability to defend themselves? How does the infection spread to everyone in there so fast? Also, if zombies only worry about consuming flesh, then how would the previuosly eaten person have enough muscle mass left to then reanimate and even stand up?
Sometimes they can climb stairs, and other times they can't. So which is it? They can obviously crawl, so it seems like stairs would be no big deal and hiding on second stories would not be a very safe option, imo. Even the issue of people not knowing of zombie culture does not make much sense. If someone comes growling at someone else and chomping at them, do you think they would be like "okay, but just a quick bite"? This also assumes that in the zombie world there has never been any blood borne pathogens I guess? If you come at me barring teeth like a rabid dog, myself and most people would not think twice about putting them down like one. Why haven't any of the dams overflown? When do the nuclear melt-downs start happening? Manhattan and any place under sea level should already be submerged, for lack of running pumps. All our aircraft carriers (floating cities basically) and all cruise ships have just had everyone suddenly jump ship? What about the ISS and all the satelittes? Shouldn't they be starting to come crashing down to earth, without any earthbound controllers' flight corrections? No, I think there's many things that haven't been thought out in a realistic way. Maybe someone should try a scenario where more of these could be approached? I do think Fear TWD was on a pretty good track with this at first, but quickly diverted to the end days (everything collapsed at once) apocalyptic TWD version. Hopefully they get back to some of that stuff, (even if only in flashbacks) in future episodes. I think many would personally welcome a zombie outbreak, as it would give people a needed outlet for all their doomsday prepping ;) lol What do you guys think? |
