Hi guys,
Need some help from someone in Chicago, or that at least know the city. I will be traveling to US in 2 weeks. Beside Boston and NY I will be going to Chicago. I will be traveling by car to all destinations and so I need to know where can I park and what costs to expect. For NY I anticipated this problem because I was there before and I also know some places that are free they are not that safe. So I booked an hotel outside plus hotel costs are lower when compared to Manhattan. However for Chicago not sure if I should do the same. I found some reasonable hotel prices in the city center but I don't know where to park. The hotel I saw charges $67 per day for the car which is a lot. So I need options, eventually hotels where I can park for free outside without having meters and so, and close to city center, or hotels with reasonable parking costs like $15 or less per day. Thanks

You should be able to find reasonable parking in parking garages, depending on where you are in the city. I never had a problem there. Places like NYC and San Francisco, however, are different stories.

There are parking garages all over the city, but I think you are going to be hard pressed to find somewhere to park for less than $15 a day. I agree that $67 is a lot; you should be able to do better than that. However, I will warn you that parking will be costly.
I'm sorry that I can't do better. I live outside of Chicago and try to take public transportation when I have to go into Chicago for this very reason. I can't, therefore, recommend a particular garage or place. I live an hour west of Chicago. If you'd like to leave your car in front of my house, I'd gladly drive you to and from the train station (for free). Just send me a private message. |

I'm glad I found this thread. The one thing I love the best about Chicago is it's ease and cost of parking. I was there twice for the Wizard World comic con, and literally everyday I found street parking. The parking limit at meters is usually 1 - 10 hours depending on where you park. Plus if you are looking to "house" your car as in a permanent spot, then I suggest a garage and/or the hotel garage. Plus parking is free on Sunday in the city at meters.
And yes I'm from NYC the parking is impossible there, and San Francisco luckily I was with my mom the one time I was there so she has disabled parking and she can park where ever she pleased for free.
