I guess this may have been discussed before, but for some of you that sell Joes (or other similarly sized figures) regularly, what are your favorite ways to securely pack them for shipping?
I have a few ARAH figs I'm gonna throw up on ebay (nothing crazy at all, just making room in the house/life), but I've never actually shipped a figure before. I've sold comics, CDs, records, DVDs and shirts many, many times...but different packaging there. So, any suggestions for shipping an individual figure? Thanks! |

Small box with bubble wrap or newspaper stuffing. I try to avoid bubble mailers (envelopes) if possible.

Thanks...does Staples or somewhere sell a standard, like, pack of small brown boxes? I know I can get the small priority boxes from the post office, but I was trying to not charge priority shipping prices.

Yep. Also see if your town has a store called Xpedx. They sell almost any size type box you can imagine. The post office also sells small boxes that are not the Priority ones.

Awesome thank you. I will look into an Xpedx, the name sounds familiar so maybe we do.

You can always pick up a bunch of the priority small flat rate boxes from the USPS, and then wrap it in brown paper, or cover up the priority signs with colored tape. If you don't want to go to the USPS to do that, they can mail you a few. You just have to go to their website to order boxes for free. I think you can order the boxes for free one time, but after that, there may be a cost.

If you have a comic shop near by most sell cardboard card boxes for magic cards and such. I use the 300ct boxes and they work great for loose figures. They run about .50 a piece in my area. You can ship a figure in that box 1st Class Mail anywhere in the US usually for less than $3.00

This is against federal policy. Not worth the risk of getting turned away and having to repackage or worse. Neved cover up these boxes. Post office workers are trained to spot these out. You must pay priority if you use these boxes. I know, it sucks but not worth the hassle. Local grocery stores will give you free boxes if you ask. Or keep all boxes and bubble wrap from items you get in the mail. If the item is moc never use a padded envelope. Easy way to get a negative feedback. The card will be trashed. Always use a secure box with thick taping. If figure is loose put it in a small baggie with his weapons and stands. A top zip lock looks much better than sandwich bags but both will work. Use bubble wrap or foam filler or newspaper to make sure item stays secure. After this is done and box is sealed you should shake your box. There should be no rattling. Item should stay in place. Doing this will ensure you get a happy customer regarding shipping. The 1st class shipping with tracking is my preferred method with usps. Cheap and reliable. Pretty fast shipping time. Also make sure to send the item the next business day after the payment has been received. Once item is shipped make sure to add the tracking number in pay pal right away. This way customer can track package and you get your funds released faster. If you have a bunch of items and only want to take a post office trip only once or twice a week then clearly state this on the notes. Feedback is important for your reputation. Always check messages at least once a day and respond quick with any questions or concerns both before and after the sale. Golden rule... treat your customers the way you want to be treated. ^ Yeah. Somone shipped me a figure in a Priority box that they covered up. I got a notice of "postage due" and the package was being held at the post office. WTF? I didn't know what that was about, and it was only a single figure (2003 convention Zarana)
Needless to say, I was pretty pissed. After I got the figure and saw what happened, I esplained it to the eBay seller and he apologized profusely and gave me a refund for the postqage and some extra for my trouble. If you're honest with the Priority boxes, its a great value. If it fits, it ships. I'd wrap single figures w/accesories in baggies and use bubble wrap, or crushed paper. |
