This article was posted a few days ago and talks about a new approach to 3D printing and rapid prototyping, objects created in this manner do not have resolution lines and are done in minutes rather then hours. On top of that they are noticeably far stronger. I have yet to see how detailed the parts are but the implications of this for the future of printing could be mighty.

Whoa, that's definitely a game changer. Since this is a new technology, it may take quite a while before we see it for home use. Still, the video was impressive to say the least.

There was a video included in the Disney DVD of Treasure Planet that described a similar process for making part for their Maquettes, A vat of resin that lasers were fired into at angles to solidify the resin. Once done a tray would lift out of the vat with the parts and cleaning would then be needed to finish off the parts. I thought the concept to be outdated after seeing the latest in rapid prototyping but this, to me, is astounding. Considering how fast we have seen 3D printing progress with an aggressive eye on marketing this has the potential to be a powerful push for that industry. I am glad I am still in awe of the potential of what the future holds.
