That'll happen when you keep the shelves bare.

I just started reading Toy Wars tonight, and it looks like Mattel is still flogging Hasbro! Man.

Hasbro is clearly more interested in becoming an IP/multimedia company than remaining solely a toy company.
This doesn't surprise me. Lego is freakin' huge, and ever since they started expanding into licensed properties they've had crazy levels of success. |

Hasbro does need to expand its market. If that includes games and other multimedia, that's cool. Hopefully they don't neglect their original purpose or making toys.
But as said earlier, without product available to purchase, it does cause sells to fall.

Let's not get trapped in the bubble and start thinking that action figures are all or even most of their business (and even then, there are plenty of action figures out there...just less of the highly detailed, highly-articulated, highly-accessorized versions that adult collectors favor). |

Can't say that's terribly surprising.
Not because of specific issues with Hasbro (though their action figure offerings haven't been as good of late), but because of the absolute juggernaught that is lego. |

To be fair Mattel has 2 evergreen properties in Hot Wheels & Barbie. Barbie get's direct to video offerings probably once a year.
Lego's growth in the last 5 years corresponds with all of their multimedia promotional offerings that appear on basic cable networks. |
