Anyone see the preview for this show? According to these people there will be very little evidence that we were here 1,000 years after we are gone.
Considering the Romans and Greeks and even the Egyptians are thousands of years old and there is STILL evidence of their existance, I think this show will be heavily flawed. What do you think? |

Isn't that show about if we were completely gone? The reasons some of the other things are still around is us preserving it. I believe if it is the same show I am thinking of then they are theorizing about us being gone. No maintenance or anything on any structures or roads. Possible but I'm sure there would be some types of evidence left of us. Most metal would rust away. A lot of other materials would most likely bio degrade too. 1000 years is quite a long time with nobody to take care of anything.

Again-I think it is heavily flawed. There are materials such as plastic that are going to be around for thousands of years after we are gone.

I don't believe it's flawed. Ancient Egyptians (pyramids), Rome (Coliseum, the city), Greece (Parthenon), Mayan's (pyramids) were all made of stone and have been around for 1000's of years already. These structures (mind you only the really massive survive) are made to last. In the next 1000 years if no person were alive for up keep our buildings and city's would deteriorate in a relatively short amount of time. Nature would reclaim all urban areas in just a few 100 years. While the great stone structures of the ancient past would be a 1000 years older and unrecognizable as the monuments they are today.

edit: The radioactive material (which we already bury deep underground) would also exist but be hidden deep down in layers of earth. Last edited by ShakeZula77; 04-21-2009 at 12:54 AM.. |
