Eek! Never allow an online program access to your PC. Only ever use programs you have downloaded and installed manually. The good news is we can probably find and kill whatever is lurking in your PC.
Here are some recommended free spyware removal programs. I've used them for years and they haven't let me down yet. Spybot: DOWNLOAD Ad-Aware: DOWNLOAD This is a very good antivirus and firewall combination (the only free 64-bit firewall on the net). You will have to remove your existing software to install it so make sure you come offline! Comodo: DOWNLOAD And finally, I also use Spyware Blaster. This is an internet shield, so it won't help with your current problem but should prevent it from happening again. Spyware Blaster: DOWNLOAD So, download those four setup exe's and go offline. Install them all. Spybot and Ad-aware will both detect the other upon installation, just tick Allow / Ignore. You will be asked to restart by Comodo. Restart but stay offline. Then, click on the Start button (Windows icon in the bottom left corner) and find the Run... command. If you are using Vista just use the Start Search box with the blinking cursor in it directly above the Start button. Type in MSCONFIG and hit Enter. This will bring up your System Configuration box. Go to the Startup tab. This is everything on your PC that activates on bootup, most of which is rubbish. EG, auto-update features for Acrobat that kill your internet connection at random. I untick everything except for known applications and security. For example mine is like this: Ticked Processes: Windows Defender COMODO Internet Security Spybot - Search & Destroy uTorrent Ad-Aware Tray Application Windows Live Messenger Stardock ObjectDock Unticked Processes: Acrobat Assistant 8.0 Adobe Acrobat Speed Launcher AcroTray - Adobe Acrobat Distiller helper application Adobe Acrobat CloneCD DesktopVideoPlayer EPSON Status Monitor 3 GrooveMonitor Utility Nero Home Catalyst Control Center Tablet Driver for Win2000 Syntek Camera The unticked processes are all programs that I use, but I don't necessarily need them all to spring to life as soon as I switch on. That's what my desktop shortcuts are for. But to get to the point, if something nasty has taken root, most likely it will show up in this list. Unticking will at least disable it as an active function. While you're in System Configuration, it's also worth looking at the Services tab. First thing to do is tick the "Hide all Microsoft services" box in the bottom left corner, you don't want to mess with those really, and ticking this will shorten the list considerably. Again, here are my processes. Ticked Processes: Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service COMODO Internet Security Helper Service Unticked Processes: Ati External Event Utility ##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94BB79762# # FLEXnet Licensing Service InstallDriver Table Manager Nero BackItUp Scheduler 3 NMIndexingService PLFlash DeviceIoControl Service WinTab Service See what I mean? ##Id_String1.6844F930_1628_4223_B5CC_5BB94BB79762# # is listed as being Manufactured by Apple Computer, Inc. The only Apple application I have would be QuickTime, and I don't ever use it (I prefer the K-Lite add-on). Most likely it installed as part of a cutscene module for a game. Once you've unticked all your crap, you will need to restart again, but still stay offline. After restarting, activate Spyware Blaster and hit Enable All Protection. Spybot and Ad-Aware both have resident shields of their own but as you no doubt realise you can't be too careful! Go online. Check Spybot, Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster and Comodo for updates. Each has it's own process but they are all simple. Comodo updates automatically, but to do it manually double-click on the System Tray icon (by the clock) and go to the Miscellaneous screen. Make sure Spybot is fully immunised (you need to do this for every update) and run a full scan. If it finds anything, follow the instructions to remove them all. Then run an Ad-Aware scan. Both are excellent programs, but both tend to find the odd thing that the other missed - between the two you can't really go wrong. Finally, run a full Antivirus scan with Comodo. My computer has 2 TB of hard drives and 8 GB of RAM, a full scan takes me 12 hours so best leave it running overnight. I'm running Vista 64-bit, but all of the above should translate into XP, I think. Do shout if you didn't follow any of that, I am happy to help further.

You're gonna have to reformat it if none of those above suggested anti-virus software doesn't work. Back up whatever you can in the meantime, it's only gonna get worse. Why on earth did you click on it, regardless of whether or not it looked legitimate? Nothing you usually have running would pop up in that manner, so that should be your first red flag right there. I have to fix this sort of crap all the time because people never listen to me when I tell them to not click on anything when these sort of popups show up.
Good luck with that, you're gonna need it :-( |

Also, if you are having trouble getting online (then you probably won't be seeing this LOL) try installing Mozilla Firefox browser while you fix IE.
Firefox: DOWNLOAD

Like someone suggested, download a copy of Malwarebytes. Boot into safe mode (reboot and keep pressing F8 key until you are asked how you want to boot... use arrow keys to select Safe-Mode). Run Malwarebytes. probably will need to run it a few times.
I think you might have clicked on the "Antivirus 360" popup. If so, just Google it and you should find several tips on removing it. Good luck. |

Thanks to all of you for the help! I have some more work to do to my PC (as you figured, I'm not that PC minded) but I do believe that I have prevented the virus from destroying my computer.

This shit has been going around. My mom, friend, and my wife, and my wife's employer all have had this come up with varying degrees of damage done. My friend, and a couple of my wife's coworkers had to reformat, I got my mom's cleaned up without reformatting, and I got my wife's shut down before it installed.
