I knew this was comming, but I really didnt think I was gonna be this sad over it. I am a HUGE football fan, as so many of us are here and the man was just a staple of the NFL. Geez, even as a kid playing backyard tackle or touch on the street..someone always would try to call a play immitating his voice.
Not only as the quintessential play by play guy..but people forget John Madden is a HOF coach for one of the meanest, toughest and (not lately) but in the 70's and early 80's one of the greatest football franchises in the history of the game. Mr. Madden was pivotal in legacy of that Raiders team. We now know him as a big guy who pals around with Al Michaels and is immitated by Frank Caliendo..and yeah he did stray off topic and babble here and there, but yeah he was a great announcer and a CHAMPION of a coach. John Madden is up their with Lombadi, Landry and Parcells, but he has been in the booth for so long, we're used to him there and for the video games. Just remember guys, the man is a HOF coach and played an intergral part in the game as we know it. I really thought it was gonna be Al Michaels who kind of left the game then Madden would follow like he said he would. Michaels being in good shape would enjoy his retirement with his grand kids and golf. I never thought I would see Madden walk away. However as a fan I want to say thanks for your years of service, how great you have been..and even sponsering such a great video game franchise which now is the only reason I even buy a new system. No doubt the greatest sports video game of all time, and I'm sure he will stay active with it, thats just easy money and it will probably be just enough football for a retired announcer and HOF coach to be happy with after all his years. Im happy that its going to be Micheals and Collinsworth..Al Michaels is the MAN! Collinsworth back when used to get on my nerves a bit, but in the last 4-5 years he has grown more into a personality and seems more like "one of the guys". Heres looking foward to another great NFL season!! |

Maddon still has the best winning percentage of any coach in history.

Anyways, Thanks Madden for your years of service. I will always remember him scribbling on the screen during a game and talking about penetration, and then you look at what he drew and lets just say it wasn't pretty. Funny yes, but not pretty.

Collinsworth is great. He truly knows his stuff, more so then many others.
It'll be weird to not hear Maddon's voice every sunday though.

Man I will miss him. I agree that he has lost a step in the last few years but the man knew football.

To bad it wasn't that dumbass Deion Sanders. He has to be the most ignorant commentator I have ever heard.

They need to make a plaque of his catch phrase... "BOOM!". The quote that defined this era of football.
