I went for a consultation today. I am getting my first tattoo(s) at 26, and I decided before work to go to the Haight. I'm getting a bunch of stars on my shoulder blades leading into my cleavage. I'm then getting them filled in various colors.
The estimate for this venture. 120.00. Tattoos are as addictive as plastic crack. That's a lot of money and thats almost 3 Cobra Island packs in a time when I'm saving money for my uncertain future. But unlike the cobra island packs, I'm permanently stuck with these tattoos. I have plenty of piercings. I have my nose and my lower lip pierced. I'm getting my marilyn repiercied again. So what I'm really trying to say is how many of you have tattoos and piercings. If so, what do you have? |

Tattoos sound painful.
How about something funny instead? |

2 tats, both when I was young.
Right leg: Imperial Insignia Left leg: Cobra Sigil Yep. Nerdcore all the way. Thought about others, but nothing suited me as much. Everyone always says "where's the decepticons!" and I reply that the Decepticons are rubbish and the Autobots rule the day. Mmhmm Tattoos.

Oh god Piercings. I got my upper ear pierced when I was .. 20? It hurt so bad, for so long, I swore I'd never get another. Ever. Tattoo's are a walk in the part comparatively.

Whats funny, is I got them in 1999, when everyone was disappointed in Star Wars and I hadn't collected (or seen) a G.I. Joe in probably 10 years. Both we're near and dear to my heart though .. err leg I guess.

Well, I will paraphrase my friend Melissa who is an expert of sorts on tattoos and piercings.
You should only get something that is meaningful to you. Don't get something just because it "looks cool" or because you're the only person in your clique who doesn't have a tattoo. According to her philosophy (which I trust), any tattoo you get should have very special meaning to you and symbolize something significant. I had a client once who had a tattoo of a smoking gun and the smoke curling around a couple of names. I asked her what the meaning was and she told me those were the names of her two children and it symbolized she loved them so much she would do murder for them. Now THAT is what a tattoo should be. I have no tattoos. Even IF my body was not covered in hair from the neck down, I still don't think I'd subject myself to it. Plus, I'm a Libra which means I constantly change my mind. |
