i tip well.
i tip extremely well if you drove out in the middle of a winter storm to bring me food i was too lazy to go get myself. sometimes i tip REALLY well if the service was terrible. and by tip I mean I'll tear a 1 and a 5 in half and leave one half of each so that they can't be completed. i can be a big eater. don't roll your eyes at me if I order 2 entrees. all you have to do is take the order and bring me the food. people always complain about getting raises. if you have a happy customer base... you have a paying customer base... and if it stays steady... well that's where your goddamn raise comes from. holy crap! I tip cab drivers well if they get me where i'm going in a timely matter and don't play country music or r&b. don't roll your eyes at me if I ASK you if you wouldn't mind taking me two places. that's why I asked first you grouchy son of a bishhhhh.

15%
Thats all we can afford. I even carry a tip card in my wallet. It says how much of a tip to leave. It lists how much of a tip for 15% and 20%

I've always thought that a proper tip for satisfactory service is 15%. The trend of restaurants adding mandatory service charges on the bill is confusing, though. Some places seem to interpret the service charge as a "compulsory additional tip," regardless of the quality of the service (thus, the customer pays the service charge and tips the server as well). Other places substitute the service charge for the server's tip (the customer is not obligated to give the server a tip because the mandatory service charge replaces it).

Unfortunately when leaving a tip though, just giving a set amount like 5 dollars doesn't work. Your server needs to tip out too. They tip out based on a percentage of their sales, so therefore their tip should be based on a percent of your bill. If you're out with a group and rack up a 150.00 dollar tab and you leave 5 dollars which IMO is very tacky, you'd be better off leaving nothing, it's rather insulting. But your waiter/waitress needs to give 1.50 of that whopping 5 dollars to the people who brought out your food. A 1.50 to the Bartender who made your cocktails, and 2.00 of it to the bussers that set and cleared your table. So after all tip out is considered your server made nothing from waiting on you. and instead you took up a spot in their section where someone else who understands in order to receive great service you should recognize it by tipping accordingly. Luckily though parties of six or more in my restaurant the servers and bartenders can automatically put an 18% service charge on the check.
