So I hadnt seen "Breakin" or "Beat Street" in 25 years or so...and all Im saying is that Break Dancin needs to make a come back. It was so cool seeing all those moves again, I totally forgot about most of them.
When I was a kid, wed have all the neighborhood kids over at our house in the garage break dancing on a old piece of cardboard. For a long time, we only had one rap tape, "Whodini" and we didnt have a strobe light or anything. We figured out if we shook a flashlight real fast it looked a lot like a strobe light. Haha. One day (after weeks of break dancin everyday) my parents came home with a real strobe light and we used it until it broke. I was just thinking about what a fun time we had, how we were engaged in a positive and creative actvity.....unlike kids nowadays who struggle to communicate w/o a cell phone or video game headset. Yes, I guess Ive become THAT old guy. Anyway, it was just cool to see the exaggerated and over the top moves, clothes, and music of the 1980s again....I think what I really liked was the positive message in HIP HOP back then too.... compared to when it went dark with Gansta Rap back in the early ninties. Anyway, I think we should bring it back. Ill just need to stretch first now that Im older, and maybe prepare and ice pack and heating pad for after all that poppin and lockin. Ha. |

Wait, break dancing went away?
You should check out Kickin It Old School. Not a great movie, but you might appreciate it from what you've stated... |

Theres a pretty big Breaking scene in L.A. and Vegas. It has evolved just like skating has, in other words, our moves are outdated

I'd love to see breakdancing make a comeback too. But recently there's been a positive hip-hop dance craze called Jerkin'. It started on the west coast and over the past year or so it's been pretty big with the kids here in the midwest as well.

What do they call the kind of dancing that was in Footloose? Yah, they should never bring that back... EVER! LOL.

In the early 80's Break Dancing was huge in the Northeast. I took classes from 2nd to 4th grade. Our teacher was some guy from NY who supposedly worked with some big name rappers for their videos & live shows. Our group of guys at school had the huge piece of cardboard all tagged up and "ghetto blaster" that we carried everywhere. We wore red sweatshirts and black windpants with zippers all over them and those huge RunDMC gold chains & unlaced Adidas sneakers. We had Fat Boys, RunDMC, Beastie Boys & Grandmaster Flash tapes that we would bust out on recess at school. It was a pretty fun time. Huge fad up here back then. Where I was from, it was something every up through high school did, and it was a "jocks only" type of club. All the football & hockey players at our high school did it. Still have a bunch of pics around somewhere from our recitals we held. Man, the memories.
PS: Our instructor always called us "b-boys". He said everyone in the city & industry hated the term break-dancing. Last edited by bigvig; 10-26-2010 at 10:01 AM.. |

break dancing never went away.
